If the Farming Roadmap promotes both a global food system and technology replacing farmers, The Landworkers Alliance asks how it can possibly fulfill any of its rhetoric to support UK food and farming?
‘The Landworkers’ Alliance (LWA) is an organisation in the United Kingdom representing small farmers, growers, foresters and land-based workers established in 2012 under the name Via Campesina UK, and incorporated in 2015. The organisation campaigns for better food and land-use systems.The organisation works internationally on topics such as food sovereignty through membership of the international peasants advocacy organisation, Via Campesina, which represents over 200 million peasants, farmers and land-based workers through 182 member organisations.’

‘This is a welcome commitment, but we need to see the fiscal commitment to support it. DEFRA still has a huge focus on robotics, with a whole round of the £53 million Farming Innovation Programme being committed to Automation and Robotics. Rural regeneration and food system resilience will only be brought about if we support real people to work the land and reap the rewards, and the government needs to, at the very least, match new entrants’ funding to the money it’s putting into robotics; if not replace the budget entirely.’
‘……all of this (Farming Roadmap support) is somewhat undermined by their continued commitment to free trade agreements and exporting UK food abroad. They say that they will “Protect UK farmers from unfair competition” by “always considering whether overseas goods benefit from an unfair advantage and any impact on UK producers” and “Where necessary, using the full range of powers at government’s disposal, including permanent quotas, exclusions and safeguards.”
They still talk about “opening new opportunities for UK agricultural exports’ like pork, chicken and eggs” which are the most unsustainable sectors in the UK. In our 2023 report Soy No More we highlight how these sectors rely on imported soy, which has a huge impact on land use and deforestation overseas. The campaign by Sustain against intensive poultry units also shows the pollution impacts of the industry. Factory farmed pork, chicken and eggs are often vertically integrated and corporate controlled. If the meat is exported it is not contributing to our UK food security, yet we live with the environmental impacts. What’s the point?
If we are going to feed ourselves and become food sovereign, then we must stop exporting food that we need in the UK, and stop importing food from abroad that undermines UK production. The LWA recognises that we should still import foods that can’t be produced in the UK, like rice and bananas, for example, but it undermines our farmers if we import food products that can be produced here, especially if the food is produced to lower standards.’
For decades the UK has tried to open export pathways and reduce barriers to trade for UK farmers to improve farmer incomes, but the reality of what we have seen is that the deregulation of the market to reduce barriers to ‘free trade’ has in fact decimated farm profit margins. The integration of farming into the global free market economy has been one of the main sources of volatility in prices and supply and demand cycles. Despite clear evidence that market deregulation and free trade has resulted in a race to the bottom for food prices and poor returns for farmers, including the Farm Profitability Review, the farming roadmap still has a presumption in favour of expanding into global markets.
Resources used towards expanding these export markets should instead be directed towards opening up internal markets for farmers, such as through public procurement and effort towards developing robust localised supply webs across the UK.’

Professor Tim Benton; “Whilst we’re a rich nation, that doesn’t mean that everybody can afford food and food insecurity in the country is going up. But I’m slightly more worried about the notion that we will always be able to import food whenever we need it, even though it’s going to cost us more money, as opposed to thinking about what we need to do to stimulate more production at home for consumption at home and what are the implications of that? And that requires getting out of being totally driven by international market prices.”
Presenter; “How would we separate ourselves then from our prices being dominated by an international market, for instance on wheat?”
Professor Tim Benton; “I think there’s a question about should we be growing as much wheat as we are growing. We can’t decouple ourselves. There’s no way that we can be self sufficient but in a completely stable world, rules based, it makes sense to grow what we’re good at growing, export it and then import the rest. At the other extreme, if we’re cut off because there’s a global war or something like that, we would have to do a lot more about growing a whole range of different things in a different way. And somewhere between those two extremes there is a slightly more resilient balance than we have at the moment.”
Presenter; “So if a government decides that we want to prioritise more homegrown, what has to change, do you think?”
Professor Tim Benton; “Well, at the moment the majority of our land is used for production of animal source foods. We give relatively little land to horticulture. But yet when I was a boy most towns would have had some sort of market garden system. And so incentivising more horticulture, incentivising more top fruit, that’s our kind of real Achilles heel. And if that comes at the expense of growing more wheat for animal source foods and losing some of the export share, there is a balance to be had between making the most profit from a UK perspective in a year where trade is good and then relying on trade in a year where trade is bad because prices will go up and farm profitability will change.”
Presenter; “We’ve just had the Farming Roadmap, the plan for the next 25 years. Does that reflect your concerns?”
Professor Tim Benton; “To an extent, because it puts sustainability regenerative principles more at the heart. And that is a good thing, but it’s not a structural change in the way the farming economy works. So not to be knocked, but I do think the issues of climate security, food security, national security in a geopolitically volatile world needs to be closer to the heart of thinking. What should farmers be growing? How should they be growing it? Where should they be growing it? What market prices should they expect? And how can we ensure that food is affordable for the poorest?”

Intro; ‘ffinlo Costain speaks to Professor Tim Lang about his report for the National Preparedness Commission – Just in Case: 7 steps to narrow the UK civil food resilience gap. Tim Lang is Emeritus Professor of Food Policy at City St George’s, University of London. Over a long career he’s served as a consultant to the World Health Organisation, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, and the UN Environment Programme. He’s also the author and co-author of several books, most recently, Feeding Britain: Our food problems and how to fix them.’
Professor Tim Lang; “Britain, since the 1840s, 1846, the Repeal of the Corn Laws said we would stop being dependent upon our own land to produce food and a slow decline went throughout the 19th century, technology kicked in, the first ship that brought frozen meat from New Zealand to London in 1882. By 1914, Britain was producing about a third of its food. 1939, the same. In the European Union we raised it to about 80% in the early 1980s. It’s been in a slow decline now, depending on how you calculate it. How much food do we produce? Government figures say 50, 60%, something like that. In a crisis, in difficulties, which 40% are you going to do without? That’s the first thing I say to people. I think the prices issue is almost entirely one about the length of supply chains. You look at what primary producers get from the quarter of a trillion pounds. So £225/£236 billion I think now the Brits spend on food and soft drinks. Just on food, about £180/£190 billion a year. Farming gets about 8% of that. It’s tiny of the gross value added of it. Primary production – if you want to reduce the price of that food, shorten the chain is one way, some direct box scheme so they can get more money to the primary producer and get it at the same price as anyone else or less, or use your own labour. Other countries have more access to allotments, a major theme. One of the only steers I got from the National Preparedness Commission, ‘are you going to do anything about gardening and things?’ …….That doesn’t resolve the price of food, but what it does is empower and give people the skills and the capacity to produce some things which they don’t otherwise get or have to pay for.’ Does that resolve the long term issue of food prices? Not necessarily. That requires a major recalibration of the entire economy. Less money going on housing, more on food. What we’ve done is creep up food prices, but massively creep up house prices. The result is squeeze, so the bottom quarter now of British income groups and domestic spending have squeezed the amount of money they’ve got to be able to spend on food.”
Along with replacing robots with humans and global trade with local food, we need mixed farming not factory farming, quality produce over quantity and food sovereignty in the hands of small independent farmers and not transnational corporations.

Joe Rogan; “Could you have a farm that’s a regenerative farm, that’s so large and supplies so much food that you could feed people the way they’re living right now, but do it completely naturally?”
Kevin Muno; “Yes. Let me explain why. Most people don’t know that we already produce too much food today. Agriculture today makes 2,800 calories per person per day, enough to feed 10 billion people. Yet 1 in 9 of us still go hungry. Why? One word, and that’s power. Control over our food concentrated in fewer and fewer corporate hands. Factory farming didn’t solve hunger, it just consolidated who owns the food. Further, a regenerative farm like mine that uses cover crops and regenerative practices, the production compared to a factory farm is only about a 5% difference between those two types, regenerative and industrial. And the nutrient density of our output is on a whole other playing field. So, no, we don’t need factory farming to feed people. We’ve been told we do, because the system that profits from it needs us to believe that a regenerative farm doesn’t just match the output. It does it while building soil, holding water in the ground, and producing its own fertility over time instead of importing it in a bag. The question was never whether regenerative can feed the world, it’s whether we’ll let it.”

Factory farming is fuelling a pollution crisis in Northern Ireland. Much of the meat goes to England. A significant amount of the profits go to the US. Our new investigation reveals just how widespread the farming system has become:
Millions of factory farmed pigs and chickens in Northern Ireland produce thousands of tonnes of waste daily.
Waste is contaminating surrounding land and waterways. The country cannot sustainably manage the sheer volume of waste being produced.
Agriculture is Northern Ireland’s largest contributor to climate change.
We’re calling on our government to impose a moratorium (temporary ban) on factory farms and better protect waterways, nature, and public health.
Cheap substandard imports force our farmers to get ever more intensive.

‘Mr Morello said: “Once again, it is independent farmers who have borne the greatest burden. Around half of the UK’s pig herd is owned by independent producers. If they disappear, rebuilding the capacity will take many years.”
Warning against cheaper imports produced to lower standards, he added: “We should never accept a situation where British farmers, who produce to some of the highest welfare standards anywhere in the world, are undercut by cheaper imports produced to standards that would not be permitted here.”‘
Too often the use of the pig slurry to make energy is used to get planning permission for factory farms.

‘Industrial chicken farming is accelerating the spread of the world’s most common bacterial cause of diarrhoea, scientists have found. The study found a dramatic increase in the exchange of campylobacter strains between wild birds and chickens as farming has intensified, creating the ideal conditions for the bacteria to mix, spread and acquire new traits. There has also been a rise in antimicrobial resistance traits in circulating strains, raising concerns that serious illness in people will be more difficult to treat. “As the chicken population has exploded, they’ve increasingly picked up strains from different wild birds and become a cauldron of bacterial evolution,” said Prof Sam Sheppard of the University of Oxford and senior author of the paper. “Lots of strains come together and hybridise. We do not want that, because that’s where new Frankenstein monster bugs emerge.”
Campylobacter is the most common bacterial cause of diarrhoea worldwide, causing more than three times as many gastroenteritis cases in the UK each year as all other monitored foodborne bacteria combined. An estimated 60-80% of campylobacter infections are caught from raw chicken. “Cooking kills pathogens, but just a tiny splash and it’s on your lettuce leaves or your hands or your knife,” said Sheppard. Most people will get better without treatment, but sometimes antibiotics are required and infection also raises the risk of irritable bowel syndrome. Rising rates of antimicrobial resistance, which occurs when bacteria resist drugs designed to kill them, mean that some antibiotics that were previously used to treat campylobacter infections are no longer effective. The latest work suggests that the evolution of the infection is being fuelled by the unprecedented scale of chicken production.’

Since that report was published, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved three genetically engineered (GE) animals for human consumption. This update summarizes emerging scientific research and documents serious public health, animal welfare, and regulatory concerns associated with these approvals.
Introduction; At a moment defined by accelerating climate change, biodiversity loss, and mounting public health crises driven by industrial agriculture, we urgently need a transition to sustainable, just, and humane food systems. Instead, the development of genetically engineered animals is pushing agriculture further in the wrong direction—reinforcing the factory farm model by redesigning animals to better endure its inherently harmful conditions, including disease, pollution, and animal suffering. Rather than solving the problems of industrial animal agriculture, genetically engineering animals risks compounding them. Independent research has shown that genetic engineering— including newer gene-editing techniques like CRISPR—can result in unexpected genetic mutations and physical abnormalities in GE animals, calling into question industry claims of precision and safety. Even more alarming, genetically engineered animals face little meaningful regulatory oversight. FDA approvals rely heavily on company-generated data, with minimal transparency and virtually no opportunities for independent scientific review or public input. Despite regulatory sign-off, independent studies continue to identify risks to animal health and welfare and food safety ‘
It must be a relief for agroecology NGOs to see the return of Angela Eagle in the DEFRA leadership role, rather than lobbying a newbie who is again programmed to fail to protect our precious farmers.

She becomes the tenth person to serve as Defra Secretary since Andrea Leadsom was appointed in July 2016, highlighting the frequent turnover at the top of a department responsible for long-term farming and environmental policy.’

Certifying caged salmon is bound to lead to undermining organic standards. The Soil Association should stick to promoting and protecting wild salmon.

‘The organic certification body, the Soil Association, is warning it may withdraw from the farmed salmon sector unless higher standards are met. The organisation says while current standards are being satisfied, that’s not driving the improvements in the industry that they want to see. They cite high fish mortality, unacceptable levels of sea lice, and the use of harmful chemical treatments.’
Yes, replacing factory farmed meat with pulses is part of the solution but so is sourcing meat from pasture-fed livestock.

‘But this focus on growth in the poultry sector to tackle food security has met with strong criticism. Ruth Westcott, a campaign manager at Sustain, the alliance for better food and farming, said the plan to produce more UK poultry was a risk to UK food security, not a solution.
“Intensive poultry farming is highly resource-intensive, polluting and inefficient, so it can never be a solution to food security,” Westcott said.
Sustain and the campaign group Communities Against Factory Farming (CAFF) are calling on the government to axe its poultry growth plan and focus on homegrown sources of protein such as pulses, legumes, nuts and beans.’
Corporations take governments to court to overturn, weaken or delay policies to protect consumers – it’s time to boycott them.

‘The world’s biggest ultra-processed food companies have filed scores of lawsuits challenging government policies that tackle junk diets, the Guardian can reveal. Ultra-processed food (UPF) is linked to harm in every major organ system of the human body and poses a seismic threat to global health. Worldwide consumption is rising and UPF now makes up as much as half the average diet in many countries, including the UK, the US and Australia. Governments around the world have adopted measures to fight back and safeguard the health of children and adults. Among the regulations are front-of-pack warning labels, marketing restrictions on unhealthy products to make them less alluring and taxes on junk food.
Publicly, the world’s biggest UPF companies insist they support the policies, are committed to helping consumers make informed choices and want to be part of the solution. But an investigation by the Guardian, in collaboration with academics, the non-profit newsroom Lighthouse Reports and a coalition of media partners across four continents, found many of these same companies are taking governments to court to overturn, weaken or delay the policies. In total, 235 lawsuits were lodged over health policies targeting UPF in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, the US and the UK from 2010 to 2025, the investigation found.’
‘Dozens of cases are ongoing. Of those that have been resolved, three-quarters were lost by the food giants. But the length of some of the legal battles added up to almost 600 years in court, the investigation found. Some of the ultimately unsuccessful lawsuits delayed the adoption of vital public health policies for years, while also tying up government and public health officials in complex and expensive litigation.’

“You know it’s getting bad when a farmer said he hasn’t seen a single bee nearby since a data centre was built. But now it’s getting outright dystopian that another Texas farmer claimed every calf since the data centre arrived has been stillborn, meaning they have no signs of life. Clayton Tucker, who is running for Texas Agriculture Commissioner, shared the rancher’s story at a public meeting. They believe the low frequency hum and vibration from a nearby energy facility are causing his cows to now sleep by the road. A similar story comes from Bell County, Texas. Fowler Farms reports that since the construction of a $700 million data centre within five miles of his property, it’s emitting constant noise, including low frequency sound that’s audible to animals but not humans. He says this is preventing them from breeding and can cause grown cattle to lose roughly 30% of body weight. The scariest part is the fact that we still don’t have any long term studies on the impact of these EMFs and data centres on animals. But what’s become undeniable is the new hyperscaling of data centres is putting real strain on rural land, water and power systems. Just in Texas, nearly 2 million acres and 20,000 farms have disappeared in just five years. With that number growing single day, it’s up to consumers to help put a stop to this. It has to start with supporting our local farmers so you can use the localised farmers market app to connect with these local producers.”

‘Glyphosate is in the news again. The US Supreme Court has sided with Trump in protecting Monsanto (and Bayer) from legal immunity over Roundup-caused cancer. But what does it all mean? Let’s find out with Dr. Michael Antoniou, a world-renowned expert in glyphosate toxicology.’
Dr Michael Antoniou; “The key thing in the history of glyphosate is that in the early 70s, Monsanto Company in the United States discovered that it had very potent weed-killing herbicide properties. And in 1973 or 74, it launched a product called Roundup, which is based on glyphosate as the weed-killing agent. And the thing about glyphosate and the thing about glyphosate is that kills all plants, and the way it does that is it inhibits a biochemical pathway in plants. It’s known as the shikimate pathway for aficionados listening in. But this biochemical pathway, the shikimate pathway, is responsible, among other things, for manufacturing, synthesising certain crucial amino-acids, aromatic amino-acids that the plant needs to build its proteins. So when glyphosate comes in and inhibits this biochemical pathway, these essential amino-acids are not manufactured and the plant dies because it can’t make its proteins, it can’t grow. And this biochemical pathway, the shikimate pathway, is present in all plants. So glyphosate is what’s known as a broad spectrum herbicide. It kills everything. And so therefore you couldn’t spray your crop to kill weeds and keep your crop alive because it would kill your crop as well. So for many years, glyphosate was used for weed clearance before you planted your crop and those kinds of measures. So its use didn’t really expand very much because of its sprawl, broad spectrum nature. But 1976 is a very crucial year in the history of the substance. In 1976, Monsanto Company launched its first genetically-modified crops engineered to be tolerant to glyphosate. So now the farmer could grow his or her soybeans or corn maize, spray the crop, the crop would survive, but the weeds will die. And that since the mid-90s, since 1996, with the rapid adoption of these genetically- modified crops, there are now many crops that have been launched that are tolerant to glyphosate. Not only corn, maize, soy, but also sugar beet, alfalfa, to name a few more. And what we saw then was an absolutely massive escalation in the use of glyphosate herbicides. Admittedly, the cultivation of these glyphosate-tolerant crops has remained concentrated in relatively few countries, in North America and South America and one or two other places as well. But this resulted in a massive increase in glyphosate herbicide, the environmental impact escalated enormously because it would kill weeds. What are weeds to the farmer are natural habitats for wildlife? The residues of glyphosate herbicides in foodstuffs and exposure to occupational exposure on the workers on the farms, as well as those in urban areas, say groundsmen at schools or playgrounds and golf courses and places like this, also massively increased, too. So we’ve had this massive increase in glyphosate herbicide exposure since the mid-1990s. At the moment, it’s estimated that something in excess of 700,000 kilogrammes of glyphosate herbicides are sprayed annually around the world as we speak, because it has become the most massively used herbicide in history, but actually the most massively used pesticide of any sort in history to this day.”

Ian Wilkinson, Cotswold Seeds; “In our case here, we know we’ve got a lot of carbon below the soil. We don’t want to be ploughing that. These are Cotswold soils and look just below my nose we’re into really stony stuff and the last thing we want to do is to be bringing that stony stuff up onto the top. If I used a sprayer and put glyphosate on that, I’d probably be needing four litres a hectare and I’m sure that that’s not what you’d be using on any cover crops or anything. So if we use glyphosate on the herbal ley, that’s a lot of active ingredient going into our environment. There’s something like 900 million tonnes of glyphosate used worldwide. Can you believe 900 million? Sounds an awful lot to me. And I think we’re going to be hauled over the coals on this at some point in the future. Grazing hard with cows or sheep that are even better for grazing hard, they just don’t kill perennial rye grass or rye grass/clover. They don’t do it. It’s going to regrow. Cultivation is of course the other option. But how do we do that without losing this good stuff? So we bought a shallow plough. This is a 100-horsepower tractor and it pulls a five-furrow plough. So it is literally ploughing at three to four inches deep. And I know one or two of you have had similar experiences. I met Robert Hyde down in Dorset, who’s a good friend, who told me he was using this plough and we copied what he was doing and it does seem to do a much better job than the previous one we used. The previous one was going really deep and I just kept looking at stones and I thought, this is completely wrong. After we ploughed, we power harrow, which makes it even worse at probably doing all this damage, Andy (pro glyphosate from Rothemstead), to you, but I don’t have a lot of kit. We’re a small farm so I could bring in other people, but I need to do it when the weather’s right and that’s the kit I’ve got, so that’s what I’ve done. When you’re sowing seeds, it’s the one thing I do know about, especially with small seeds, they nearly always need a good seedbed. Bigger seeds are slightly different. You can rough them in a bit. But when you’re sowing leys particularly, some of these seeds like a millimetre in size, they’re no good in a rough seed beds. We can’t get away with it with those. So you do need sometimes to cultivate. So I’m just saying there’s horses for courses, and cultivation is no bad thing when you’re sowing small seeds. Richard Gantler, I don’t know whether you’re in the room. Richard Gantler is running Yatesbury House Farm in Wiltshire and I’ve known Richard for at least 25 years and he was telling me about this system that he had developed down there in Wiltshire. Not the same soil type, but fairly light stuff, really. He rips the surface real shallow and probably three or four times to kill his ley. And this is midway through the process and you can see that it’s going to need cultivating again. But a couple of things here. You don’t need a skilled ploughman to do this. How many in the room can plough really well? I bet not many these days because they’re not doing it so much. But this is a job, and with greatest respect to students, but if you’re on student placement, you could do this job. Once it’s set, you just keep going and it is shallow. And it doesn’t seem to me to be doing damage at any depth in my eyes. This questions of course, around weed control. If you go three or four times, this is a bastard fallow, really, so you need dry weather. This would be a good summer to do it, wouldn’t it? But can you even break the surface? But it would be a good summer to do it. And if you don’t do it this way and you shallow plough, you might get plants like chicory coming up after the ley. And you all know, if you’ve got herbal leys in the rotation, chicory is the good and the bad boy, it can be a pain in the ass when it’s in a cereal crop and if you can’t kill it, you get it with four litres of Roundup you wouldn’t get it with a cultivation necessarily, but I tolerate it. I’m very happy. I don’t need a perfectly clean field and regenerative farmers seem to get that bit. I’ve been trained to do the blueprint monoculture, perfect system, but I don’t mind a few weeds in the crop. If they’re not doing any harm, I don’t mind at all.”

Gareth Wyn Jones, Hill Farmer; “Come on to the Carneddau. Let me educate you. There’s places that are wet enough now that you could sink a quad or a horse, in this weather, we’ve got blanket bogs, we’ve got montane heath, we’ve got some of the rarest flora and fauna in the country. Why is that? Because that land’s been managed by the people that understand it. And I’m telling you, we have a word in Welsh, cynefin, a heft, to you and cynefin means a sense of belonging to an area. So we heft our sheep on a 27,000 (acre) open mountain, so every farmer has a piece of that heft. I believe I’ve been hefted into that land by my father or by my forefathers. And that’s a skill you cannot really buy. It’s passed on. We can’t lose these youngsters. We need to incentivise them. We’re doing some works up there now with the national park and the National Trust, where they’re putting mounds back to stop the leakage of carbon out of this fantastic area. It’s working together, and I’d like to say to Lyr as well, I’d love to give him an invitation up to my farm. We bring them sheep off the mountain for the winter so that area can regenerate and regrow. And this is why I’m saying that no mountain is going to be the same, everything will have different aspects, and we’ll need people, livestock, with the ability to farm that land and to produce really healthy, nutritious food.”

Lee Truelove; “Let’s start with the obvious, but obviously the sort of engine room of farming and that’s the natural infrastructure, that’s our soil. So we rely so heavily on healthy soil. And how do we define healthy soil? I guess I’m no soil expert, but surely it’s got to be biologically active. It’s got to be able to properly function in water, nutrient and carbon cycling. The soil has to be treated as an ecosystem, not just something you put a seed and that seed hopefully is supported in its growth. It’s more than that. And I think the infrastructure that is soil is something that of course is now pretty much on everybody’s lips, but it didn’t used to be. We’re in another dry summer, aren’t we? So we’ve got soils that are more drought prone perhaps than they need to be because we’ve depleted soil organic matter. We haven’t got that soil armour on. We haven’t got those living roots necessarily. So that drought-prone soil creates real risk to the food system, but also commercial risk to the farmer and of course our customers. Equally I think the amount of artificial inputs, and this is more than anecdotal now that putting just as much fertiliser on but actually getting lower yields, that’s a law of diminishing returns pretty quickly. And I think we’re also starting to see, and I would suggest, let’s celebrate what we’ve done with agri carbon. Climate change is not just about emissions, it’s all also about what we’ve lost in soil, which of course is just another emission. But it’s an emission that up until this point wasn’t really measured at scale. So that soil carbon loss is not only a loss of healthy soil to grow crops, but it’s actually aggravating the problem we’re trying to overcome. I think we could go on much more, but we could talk about natural predator insects to help control pest insects. We could talk about natural flood management of having landscapes that don’t essentially create flash floods when we go from dry to wet again. We can talk about the sort of natural shade and climate function of hedges and trees. But I think first and foremost what we’re saying is the biggest natural infrastructure is the soil, and yet we’ve treated it like something we just put seeds and then we apply other things to make the seeds grow. And that’s created a high risk system.”
Lee Truelove; “I guess it’s really pertinent at the moment, isn’t it? We’ve seen more geopolitical upheaval and some people have celebrated globalisation for the last 30 years. But globalisation has also really created that attitude that we can just run open loop systems. And I think it’s apparent now that open loop saying, well we’ll get fertiliser, get pesticides, we’ll get feed, we’ll mechanise, we’ll be very specialist as well and there was no real consciousness of overwhelming the natural system in a particular locality because we had this globalist idea that we can always source it from wherever. And that’s why we’ve seen over 30, 40 years the lack of mixed farming. And therefore super expertise in one area. And if you characterise that as being super expert in one area but perhaps blind to the consequences in another area. So I think those volatilities are now baked into the current system which is why they create a fragility to everything that drives that system. Whereas a regenerative farm at its essence is trying to be more of a closed loop. So we are trying to use less fertiliser because soil fertility is one of the primary goals and you don’t build soil fertility and then also apply fertiliser.”
ffinlo Costain; ” And when you say fertiliser, you’re talking about petrochemical fertiliser rather than natural compost, I’m guessing.”
Lee Truelove; ” Well, I call natural fertiliser manure, and the best composter. So, joking aside, we’ve got to recognise our fragility when we’re reliant on all these other countries around the world and all these other companies to what is at its essence producing food from the land that our members operate. So Regen, I think, is asking farmers to think about more of a closed loop system. So what is your natural soil fertility? And that will enable you to wean the system off artificial fertiliser. What more can we do to get milk from forage? So obviously we’ve championed a greater implementation of rotational grazing. If you get more milk from forage and you’re buying less grain from elsewhere. Also if you can extend the grazing season in a dairy context through infrastructure such as trucks and an extra water troughs, then that’s less infrastructure needed in terms of buildings. And you just end up with a totally different mindset once you say, ‘what can we optimise on the farm as opposed to what can we buy in.'”
Don’t touch bread that isn’t real!

Ben Aveling; “Every single grain of wheat in this field we planted and managed and we’ll also harvest it. When it leaves this farm it’ll be some of the best wheat grown in Britain. So explain to me how a loaf of bread can cost 55 pence because the maths doesn’t work out in food and they don’t work here. Something is being hidden and today I’m going to show you exactly what that is. So real bread has four basic ingredients, flour, water, salt and yeast, and that’s it. That’s all bread has ever needed for thousands of years. There’s an organisation in this country called the Real Bread Campaign. They’ve been running since 2009. Their definition of real bread is very, very simple. No artificial additives, no preservatives and no improvers. No processing aids either, just the four ingredients. Pick up your supermarket loaf and turn it over, read the ingredients, it says wheat flour, water and yeast and salt. But four ingredients, same as real bread. So what’s the point of my video? My point is that those four ingredients on that label, that’s not telling the full story. And this is a key point because in the UK right now there’s a legal category called processing aids. These are substances added during manufacturing processes of your food and according to the Food Information to Consumers regulation, that’s a real mouthful. UK retail law, processing aids do not need to appear on the label. So provided the manufacturer can argue they don’t perform a technical function in the final product, like enzymes, ascorbic acid, oxidising agent, reducing agents added to your bread, not required on your label. This is not a conspiracy theory whatsoever. This is published UK food law and you can look it up yourself. The government decided that if a substance is to be used in this process, it isn’t technically functioning in the final product. You don’t need to know that it was there. But here’s something that’s quite interesting because the substance that keeps your supermarket bread fresh for 14 days, according to the law, isn’t a functioning ingredient. In 1961, a government funded lab in Hertfordshire developed what became known as the Chorleywood bread process. Have you ever heard of it? Neither had I. Before 1961, making bread required time, a proper fermentation, minimum of four hours, often overnight. That fermentation develops the gluten, correctly creates flavour and it produces a structure that’s genuinely stable. It’s the Chorleywood process that cuts the fermentation down to 45 minutes. How does it do it? High speed mechanical mixing, hard vegetable fats chemical oxidants and those processing aids, the ones that don’t appear on your label. The result is you can produce three times as many loaves per hour at a fraction of the cost. Always follow the money. So this is possibly the key point. Today, 80% of the bread sold in the UK is made using this process. 8 Out of 10 loaves on the supermarket shelf. The four ingredients on your label are real. They just aren’t everything that’s in your bread. This is the question I want you to ask yourself. Real bread, four ingredients, proper fermentation, no shortcuts, lasts two days, maybe three. The supermarket loaf in front of you with those same four ingredients on the label lasts two weeks. Same ingredients, 12 extra days of shelf life. How? This is how. Calcium Propionate E282, which is a mould inhibitor. Some manufacturers still list it, some don’t, depending on the concentration used and the enzymes, the amylassis, the proteases, I don’t even know if I’m even saying these right, keeping the structure of that loaf intact for two weeks, processing aids, not on the label. Every extra day of shelf life on that supermarket shelf is margin for them. Every gram of water retained by those emulsifiers is pure margin for the retailer.”

The UK needs more horticulture farms if we are to be food secure.

Rebecca Laughton; “We need to have a much more systemic package to support the horticulture sector. We’re very much not asking for DEFRA to do it all for us, because our sector is already doing so much itself. But there are some key things it would be really helpful to have. I would identify training as a real gap and having really clear pathways into horticulture, so accredited training courses, paid apprenticeships. Also we would like to see the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) made so it’s accessible for smaller scale growers, because at the moment it’s not really working well. Growers of under 3 hectares can’t benefit from it, which is such a common scale. We’d also like to see work being done on making routes into public procurement and make procurement contracts easier, because I think that would really create a much more stable market. Looking at how groups of smaller growers can collaborate to access those routes to market. Also looking at the kind of infrastructure that growers need to help them pack and process their produce to get it ready for market, where there are groups of growers in a region so they can consolidate orders and then access those orders. And then of course, if the Market Garden Support Fund gets made available with the capital grants, and then the final thing is for access to land. At the moment, Landmatch England is already in existence in a pilot phase, but that is just a one year pilot. What we would really love is for that to be publicly funded, because it’s not just about making the initial match, but really brokering that relationship as the farmer and the potential land seeker build a relationship of trust, because a farmer allowing someone to come and start growing on their land, you’re not just going to let anybody do that, you need to build that relationship. And having something like Landmatch England, which they do already have, in Scotland and Wales, which is really enabling people to access land, is really game changing. So really to help the growth would enable us to substitute for more input for more imports. Actually, there’s really, really strong growth of the organic market at the moment. In 2024/25, there was 10.4% growth. So there’s real potential. It’s not that we’re just thinking we produce it and there aren’t the markets where at the moment there’s the growth, but we’re having to import to meet that demand. So if we could enable more growers to run viable, vibrant businesses, that would just be a winner for all, not least the public health of this country.”
Michael Kennard, Compost Club; “There’s plants telling the soil what they want through releasing chemicals, biology responds if it’s present, cycles nutrients, builds structure, creates plants naturally – pest and disease resistant, nutrient dense, fully able to express with full vitality their genetic potential. In the absence of that biology, it’s kind of relying on us to provide it with what we think it needs, which is often what we think we’re supposed to be doing. We’re never going to do it as well as these natural systems and the world is this enormously complex inter-related biological system. We’re mostly microbes and we’re a direct reflection of the life in the soil that our food grew in or grazed on, like exactly that. And so we should be biologically informing our gut biome and it’s very diverse and diversity is the key.”

Dr Lucy Williamson; “My key area is that I work as a nutritionist with the gut microbiome. When we really look after our gut health and the roughly 100 trillion good microbes that are in there, give us those wider health benefits. And that’s all based on really wonderfully robust research now. And what we see with the soil is that there are just uncanny similarities with what’s going on in the soil and what’s going on in our gut. And if we take that back a step, when you look at what microbes do to whichever living system it is that they’re in, that they’re really helping to build resilience in the system. I’ve used the language in the book as a new approach to health, the inspiration for that has absolutely come from the farming systems that are regenerating the soil. So we use those words like resilience. The system lives off its diversity and the more diverse our gut microbiome, the better that is for our health. The more diverse the biology within the soil, the better the soil microbiome works for the plants. So it’s all about building resilience and introducing people to this new approach to our health where we’re trying to build the resilience of our own biology to get us into our personal best. The problem is that we’ve optimised our food system in a way that is totally at the expense of that resilience. So working with foods from a soil to gut principle brings that back. There’s two key areas, the way it works from soil to gut. There’s very specific evidence that we’re starting to see emerging, which is when we work with increasing and restoring the biology in the soil, we’re starting to understand that the food changes in quality. We know that dairy tends to get more of its anti-inflammatory function when the cows are grazing. Those sward-rich pastures that we see in regenerative organic farming systems, plants are higher in antioxidants, I use the term a lot in the book, they’re literally like rocket fuel for our gut health. And then a really interesting one is cattle being raised for beef in a pasture-fed system have quite a different fat profile and we see higher levels of those really healthful Omega 3 coming through in the meat. So there’s specific nutrition benefits that we’re starting to see. We’ve got a long way to go. But then there’s the wider benefits because actually what we understand from our gut microbiome is not just the food that we’re eating, but actually the environment in our lifestyle. It’s really interesting,, if you look at a map of the world and where we have populations that are still really connected with how their food is grown, more in developing countries, we see they have wonderful diversity in their gut microbiome because they’re working the land, they have the soil on their hands, they’re inhaling microbes as well as having food which is less processed. But in those parts of the world we see a picture of health which is very different to what we have in our westernised society where we have a life that is much more disconnected from the soil. So in our western world we have these chronic health conditions very much rooted in inflammation whereas in areas of the world where we still have this connection back to the land, then we see very hardly any of those inflammatory conditions.”

Andy Dibben; “As far as pest management above ground, we don’t use any biocontrols. We just use natural habitats to enhance and direct those natural populations and predators.”
ffinlo Costain; “And just talk me through some of those predators and some of the benefits of having them.”
Andy Dibben; “They literally do as good a job as pesticides, is what I would say. And in fact they’re much better because the pests don’t develop a resistance to them, which is what’s happening with a lot of chemical agriculture at the moment. And they inherently don’t damage our ecosystem, which chemicals do smash to pieces in every which way. So that the main predators that we find in our field-scale, veg that are really, really important, it’s the usual suspects. It’s ladybirds and their live larvae, hoverfly larvae, it’s lacewing larvae, and perhaps the undersung and the most important is parasitoid wasps and they look after the aphids and they look after all the caterpillars that get all over our brassicas, and they genuinely commercially work at effective levels”

‘The spirituality of the ancient Celts, like that of most pre-modern peoples, was deeply rooted in human belonging to nature. Jean Markale, in his very interesting 1985 book on druidism, explains that this was reflected in the fact that “before being conquered by the Romans or assimilated by the Greeks, the Celts never built any temples”. They were rather the “men of the Tree” and officiated and taught in sacred clearings, nemeta, in the middle of the forests.
“Knowledge and wood are symbolically placed in parallel. The druids had a predilection for the forests and all the druids of Gaul met once a year in the forest of the Carnutes. In Britain, the druidic establishment on Ynys Môn (the island of Anglesey) was in a forest”. Describing a Celtic sanctuary near Marseilles, the Spanish-born Roman poet Lucan (39-65 AD) wrote: “The druids live in the deep woods (nemora alta) and withdraw into the uninhabited forests… They worship the gods in the woods without using temples”.

‘Ed Miliband has approved Britain’s second-largest solar farm after overruling opposition from his own inspectors. The Energy Secretary on Wednesday said he had granted planning permission to the One Earth Solar Farm development to be built on prime farmland across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. It comes despite a recommendation to block the development from Mr Miliband’s own planning inspectors.
They warned that the scheme would be destructive for the environment, would put historic structures at risk, damage the health and well-being of local people and cause transport problems. The controversial decision marks the third large solar farm approved by Mr Miliband in recent days, coming a week after he backed two other large solar farms, Pear Tree Hill in East Yorkshire and Dean Moor in West Cumbria.
Skeptics suggest the Energy Secretary is trying to sign off as many such developments as he can before Andy Burnham takes office and potentially moves him to a new position. One Earth has been cleared for construction on 4,000 acres of prime farmland near Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood and West Lindsey district council areas. Besides the thousands of Chinese-made solar panels, the scheme will also include giant batteries to store surplus electricity. It is set to be the second largest solar farm in the UK after the Springwell Solar Farm in Lincolnshire, an 800-megawatt project approved by the Government in April. Confirming his decision, Mr Miliband said: “The only way to have energy security is if we take a pro-growth approach to building more clean energy in Britain. For two years that is exactly what this Government has done.”
However, the new scheme is controversial because it will see several rural communities largely surrounded by solar panels covering what were once fields and hedgerows. The village of North Clifton, around 10 miles from Lincoln, would have solar farms to the north, east and south, with some of the local farms being completely surrounded. Property owners cannot claim any compensation for the likely devaluation of their homes.’

‘That aluminum is fatally toxic is beyond doubt, demonstrated by mass human poisoning at Camelford in Cornwall in Britain in 1988 (chapter 18) and by occasional fish kills (p. 49). Aluminum may also be a contributing factor in a number of human diseases, in particular those involving brain and nerves (p. 124) — autism, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (chapter 14), Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis. Aluminum salts used in kidney dialysis may be responsible for dialysis-related encephalopathy (pp. 38, 79).
Aluminum adjuvants in vaccine can cause macrophagic myofasciitis (MMF: inflammation and associated microscopic muscle necrosis at the injection site) as well as such whole-body ailments as chronic fatigue syndrome and marked cognitive deficits (Rigolet et al. 2014); one middle-aged individual injected with five aluminum-adjuvanted vaccines within 4 weeks became work-disabled (pp. 72-73).
Studying the possible dangers associated with aluminum adjuvants in vaccines is complicated by the fact that aluminum acts as an antigen as well as an adjuvant — the immune system generates antibodies against aluminum itself, so that later exposures to aluminum might produce an antibody cascade capable of damaging any of the tissues in which aluminum had accumulated (pp. 73-76).
Christopher Exley has studied aluminum in relation to human health for some 35 years. This book summarises his work and cites the pertinent primary publications (some 200) in appropriate peer-reviewed journals. The book also offers quite convincing evidence of the determined efforts by a variety of vested interests to disparage and suppress Exley’s work and findings.
In my opinion, the published work summarised in this book makes a plausible case based on empirical evidence that aluminum may be a contributing causative factor in neurological and nerve diseases. Further, Exley suggests fully detailed mechanisms and quite plausible for how that comes about. Beyond that, he points to a quite fundamental a priori reason why aluminum, among all the other elements and metals, might be so uniquely dangerous. It is the third most abundant element in the Earth’s crust (after oxygen and silicon), yet there are no known biological uses of aluminum. By contrast, several other metals and non-metals are essential components of some biological systems, for example, iron in hemoglobin in blood (pp. 5-6, 11). Those two facts make it far from implausible that absorption of aluminum could be biologically harmful, by competing with or replacing other metals, or perhaps just because of its chemically oxidative properties.
But if all that is so, how has the Earth’s biosphere flourished for billions of years without succumbing to the toxicity of the super-abundant aluminum?

It’s like this thing that I showed you earlier… It says a note from Roger, so it was from and to me. I’ll read it to you if I may. And I wrote this on the 2nd of January, 2019. Okay, so this is a couple months, so I’d been in Gstaad, Switzerland, since the 29th of December, 2018, only three days but in these three days, something has crystallised. I will tell you what it is. I’ve been wondering somewhat excitedly about a forthcoming event in New York City. The convening by US attorney Jeffrey Berman of a special grand jury in the South Circuit of New York City to consider, even at this distance in time, the events of September 11, 2001. At the instigation of the Lawyers Committee for a 9/11 Inquiry, quote, ‘we have received and reviewed the Lawyers Committee for 9/11 Inquiry, Inc. submissions of April 10 and July 30, 2018. We will comply with the provisions of 18 USC, blah, blah, blah, as they relate to your submission’. That’s saying that they’re going to have the inquiry. And I wrote, my heart is beating almost out of my chest. All the families, all the victims, all our brothers and sisters, all the criminals who might be brought to justice. Tears stained my eyes on September 11, 2001, that terrible day when America was attacked and the whole world recoiled in horror. I was in London making a record and watched it all unfold on TV, transfixed and recoiling in horror, too. Almost immediately, I couldn’t help thinking to myself, this is so shocking that maybe the American people will ask themselves, why would anyone from another land want to do this to us?
It’s the basis of the way everything works is that you get control over a government by lending them money. And once you’ve lent them the money or given them the money… don’t look at me with your brow furrowed like that, you’ve seen the Congress of the United States and the cash.”
Tucker Carlson; “Of course I know what you’re saying. Again, I agree with you completely. I didn’t know that usury was banned in Iran, though. When you saw the United States go to war with Iran, what did you think? United States and Israel.”

Nothing, certainly posing no threat to anyone in the United States of America or Israel, as far as we can tell, none. They’re just in the way because they have a different view. ‘Dr. Madhava Setty, an anesthesiologist and science advisor to the International Center for 9/11 Justice, joined Children’s Health Defense TV to make what he describes as a strictly scientific case against the official explanation of the September 11th attacks. His argument rests not on speculation, but on physics, government documents, and mainstream media’s own contemporaneous reporting.
Why 9/11 matters to CHD’s mission. Setty frames 9/11 as inseparable from the organization’s focus on protecting children and exposing harms — arguing that war is an “age-old institution” that predates vaccines and environmental toxins in its toll on human health, and that CHD’s credibility rests on rigorous science rather than the “pseudoscience” of captured institutions.
Falling or blowing up? Setty opens with the iconic image of the North Tower’s collapse, noting that observers — including children shown the footage with no context — instinctively describe it as an explosion, not a structural failure. He argues the absence of any visible “top” of the building in these frames is a critical, overlooked clue.
Newton’s Third Law as the central argument. His core scientific claim: NIST’s official theory holds that the upper floors (“the pile driver”) crushed the lower structure during collapse. But per Newton’s third law, if the top exerted enough force to pulverize the bottom, the top — made of the same or sturdier material — would have to be pulverized simultaneously. Since the towers had no top remaining, he argues the “pancake theory” is physically impossible, not just improbable.
NIST’s report never actually explains collapse. Setty highlights language from NIST’s official report (NCSTAR 1) stating that collapse “became inevitable” and that investigators did not analyze structural behavior after that point. He characterizes this as an explicit admission that no real investigation of the collapse mechanism occurred — only of the events leading up to it.
Media “anchoring” the narrative. He points to The New York Times’ September 12, 2001 front section, which paired a detailed technical diagram with an explanatory graphic before any real investigation had occurred — arguing this functioned like hypnotic anchoring, cementing a “pancake collapse” narrative in public consciousness within 24 hours.
Evidence of explosives NIST didn’t pursue. Setty cites: a montage of 36+ mainstream news reports (Fox, CNN, MSNBC) describing explosions that morning; 156 FDNY firefighters who independently reported hearing or seeing explosions in oral testimonies; and a map showing human bone fragments found over a fifth of a mile from Ground Zero — which he says requires energy density inconsistent with gravitational collapse alone. He notes NIST stated they found no “corroborating evidence” of explosives, and admitted they never looked for any.
Building 7 as the clearest case. Setty calls WTC Building 7 — which was not hit by a plane yet collapsed symmetrically into its own footprint, including several seconds of true free-fall — the most damning evidence. He contrasts NIST’s computer model (which stops short of matching real footage) with an independent University of Alaska Fairbanks study that found the only way to replicate the actual collapse was to simultaneously destroy every internal and external column — consistent only with controlled demolition.
Foreknowledge and motive. He notes NYFD officials were told Building 7 would collapse hours in advance, and asks how this was known absent inside knowledge. He also raises the role of 9/11 Commission director Philip Zelikow, who in 1998 co-authored a paper anticipating a “Pearl Harbor” style catastrophic event that would justify sweeping security measures — which he connects to the Patriot Act’s subsequent powers.
Broader implications. Setty situates 9/11 within a pattern of historical “false flag” pretexts (citing the Lusitania and Operation Northwoods), argues the military-industrial complex and legacy media’s uniform messaging were essential enablers, and suggests the post-COVID erosion of institutional trust creates new opportunity to revisit 9/11 with public receptiveness.
Core conclusion: Whether or not the specific perpetrators are ever identified, Setty argues the laws of physics alone are sufficient to rule out the official explanation and require an independent, genuinely scientific reinvestigation.’

And sure enough later, 9/11 happened and I remember he was telling me how you’re going to see soldiers looking in caves for people in Afghanistan and Pakistan and all these places and there’s going to be this war on terror, which is no real enemy and the whole thing is a giant hoax, but it’s a way for the government to take over the American people.”
Presenter; “He told you it was going to be a hoax?”
Aaron Russo; “Oh yeah. Oh yeah. The whole thing is a fake. It’s a fraud.”
Presenter; “Laughing or was he just coldly saying this?”
Aaron Russo; “No, it’s more laughing, cynical laughing, it’s more like that’s just the way it is, look how stupid everybody is, we can do whatever we want to do. 9/11 was done by people in our own government and our own banking system to perpetuate the fear of the American people into subordinating themselves to anything the government wants them to do. That’s what it’s about. And to create this war, this endless war on terror, an endless war on terror without any real enemy so you can never define a winner.”
Presenter; “Did he say that? It’s going to be perfect because you can’t define an enemy, it just goes on.”
Aaron Russo; ” Yeah, because you can’t define a winner, no one knows what to beat so it goes on and on forever and they can do whatever they want. And they scared the hell out of the American public. Look, this whole war on terror is a fraud. It’s a farce. It’s very difficult to say it out loud because people are intimidated against saying it because if you say it, they want to make you into a nutcase. But the truth has to come out. That’s why I’m doing in this interview.”

Crispin Flintoff; “Now, David, there’s quite a lot of stuff in there that I’m not certain about. The first one is why do they need this new law that they’ve put through when they’ve already proscribed other groups without that law?”
David Miller; “Well, under British law it’s very difficult to proscribe a state force as being a terrorist organisation. Now you might say it’s not difficult for them to proscribe organisations as terrorists because we’ve just seen the example of Palestine Action. But of course Palestine Action is a non-state group. Obviously it’s not terrorist. But what they managed to do in relation to that was they managed to say some of their actions could be construed as within the definition of terrorism. But in relation to state forces, there’s no other state force on the British list. And it would be very difficult for them to define the IRGC is a terrorist group and for it to make sense. And of course it’s difficult internationally because Iran is a state and you can’t go around saying that the states that you oppose are effectively terrorist, even if they might, in your view, meet the definition. So it’s problematic for them legally. So they’ve dreamt up this new power, which of course is part of a much wider push from the secret state to move beyond the focus on terrorism and beyond the focus on Muslims and to start to focus much more heavily on what they call state threats, by which they mean China, Russia and Iran. These are the three states which they have specifically designated as being threatening to the UK. There’s no relationship between that and actual threats, but that’s the ones that they have designated. So the difficulty is for them to designate them as terrorists. They’re not designated the IRGC as terrorists, they’re simply saying they are a designated body under this new legislation. And of course the legislation that is based on and which this order will be based on is this new act which went through Parliament last week or the week before, the National Security State Threats Act 2026. Craig Murray; “They went through two Commons readings and amendments in the Commons in one day with no debate at all, really, and it’s being absolutely forced through as emergency legislation, which is complete nonsense and it’s terrifying legislation. It really is. It actually takes the powers of the Terrorism Act, those powers which are being used to arrest people for holding placards. It extends those to support for states which they designate as enemy or for organs of states that they designate as enemy. And one of the things which is made specifically illegal is to obtain information from those states, whether the information is true or not. It’s nothing to do with truth or misinformation. Information is defined as being a material benefit in the Act. And so if, for example, you learn from the Iranians that 180 children were killed when a school was bombed and the Iranians tell you, that it’s illegal. It’s illegal to receive the information with up to 14 years in jail, even if you don’t publish it. Getting the information from Iranians in the first place will be illegal. So this actually goes even further than the Terrorism Act. They’ve extended all the offences under the Terrorism Act to states rather than just proscribed organisations, and then they’ve added this extra one. So I think it’s quite likely that things like Hamas and Hezbollah, which are already designated under the Terrorist Act, will be designated as state organs as well under this act, in order to extend the getting information from them crime.”
Crispin Flintoff; “So this state’s designated. I don’t get it. So it’s not a proscribed organisation… how do people know which one to avoid talking about? It’s a bit difficult to know, isn’t it?”
Craig Murray; “Russia and Iran are named in the act, but also there will be other ones, and then it’s all organs of that state which will be named. So it’s the Revolutionary Guards in Iran. But you’ll also find, almost certainly it’ll be the Ministry of Information, for example, or the Foreign Ministry, or basically any organ of the state, they can designate a name and then if you get information from that organ, you’ll be committing a crime. So, this is basically designed to prevent any information that counters the official narrative on what’s happening. So casualty figures in war, as I say, bombing of hospitals, stuff about human rights in the country or all kinds of things which are not the narrative. It’s going to become illegal to get true information about what’s happening in Ukraine, for example that isn’t the Ukrainian government propaganda side that that’s why this is all being rushed through and there doesn’t have to be any intent to support, just obtaining the information itself will be the crime. And there’s no public interest defence, there’s no journalism defence, and it’s no defence if the information is true. In fact, it’s probably more of a crime if the information is true.”
Crispin Flintoff; “So we’ll just be getting IDF casualty figures and stuff like that from. From Gaza as an example, or Lebanon. We won’t know anything about what’s happening there. It will just be what Israel says is happening.”
Craig Murray; “That’s the entire purpose of the legislation, which is very scary. And it actually, funnily enough, coincides with new legislation put through by the European Union. There was a.judgement in the European Court of Justice yesterday, which was very important, which enforced this, which said that if you repost anything from a banned media organisation, that is a criminal offence in the European Union. So if you repost anything at all from Russia Today, for example, if you’re on Twitter and you see a clip of something on Russia Today, someone saying something, you think that’s good and you repost it, that is now already a criminal offence in the European Union and you’re likely to have a European arrest warrant out for you for repeating anything from Russia Today.”

Crispin Flintoff; “You yourself have been stopped, detained, I think it was in February last year, coming into the country on that basis, as I recall, you were well on top of what was happening because you knew everything about your rights and you were telling them, shouldn’t you be doing that and shouldn’t you be doing this? And what’s that? And they didn’t really know. Can you tell us basically what Schedule 7 entitles the Police to do?”
David Miller; “Well, it entitles them to stop you without having any evidence to stop you and to examine you and your possessions and your views and your beliefs. You don’t have a right not to speak to them, although you do have a right to have a solicitor, to ring a solicitor. And they quite often, in my case, for example, they didn’t ask me any questions until my solicitor had been in touch, although they did rather lamely try to talk about football, as if that wasn’t political, and they started talking about football in Glasgow, which was of course not going to go anywhere at all. So they can hold you for up to six hours, they can ask you whatever they want. You’ve got to show them your stuff and you’ve got to also give them the code to your phone or your laptop or your tablet, etc, on pain of a specific charge. And what they’re looking for, according to the law, is your involvement in terrorism. That’s how it’s expressed in the information they give to you. But of course, it’s not really about involvement in terrorism, because the Terrorism Act includes a whole range of provisions which we know go way beyond being involved in material support for terrorism, to expression of views on particular organisations, expression of support for a proscribed organisation and even being reckless in whether the expressions that you make might be interpreted or might have the effect of causing people to support a proscribed organisation.”
Crispin Flintoff; “Supposing you’ve got someone who’s been one of the thousands who’ve been arrested for holding up a sign and they go abroad and come back. They could be possibly on a list of names, what would you recommend that they do? Should they not have a phone, should they not carry a laptop? What would you say they should do?”
David Miller; “Well, I would recommend for anyone who’s in any way involved in pro- Palestine activism, not just people who’ve been arrested, because by definition they’ve got a record of you if you’ve been arrested, but anyone who’s been involved in any activism, not to put yourself at risk of having your property seized. And of course, all of your contacts and messages and emails and bank details and everything else that’s on your phone. When you think about it, it’s quite horrific, the amount of information on your phone, so I recommend if you could avoid it, do not have a laptop, do not have a tablet, do not have a phone, because they will steal it. And the information that they can get off it is the most valuable part of what they will get from you when they interrogate you, they will get maybe this or that bit of information, but they’re not going to get anything of note, unless you want to make a drastic confession in front of a lawyer, which of course in all these cases, there’s nothing to confess. So the thing to do is not to bring any laptop, any device through with you, to make sure that you haven’t got material on your person which you don’t want the police and of course the intelligence services, since the police and the ports are connected directly to the intelligence services, to have. Now, if you tell me, but I’ve got to take this or I’ve got to take that, well, I would say don’t, but if you must, then make sure that you have deleted all of your confidential information, including making sure that the app that you’re using, you haven’t allowed it to give notifications, because they can get content from notifications even if you’ve deleted the app. So delete the app, delete all the chats, get rid of Signal, get rid of WhatsApp, get rid of practically anything that can give them information that you don’t want them to have, which of course is practically everything about your life, because they can utilise and weaponise practically any bit of information about you to build on it and to build a picture. The reason I say this, not just because I know about court cases, but because I’m a researcher. So when I research them, any scrap of information I can find about people who are in MI6 or MI5 or wherever else, their birth dates, the schools they went to, the people that they knew, their dead Facebook account, which hasn’t even got a picture of it, all of these are details that you can put together to build up what is called jigsaw identification in the case, the famous case where Craig Murray was ridiculously charged with that. So, of course, do we think that they do the same thing? Yes, of course they do. They have much more technology and the technical expertise to do that. So be very, very careful, is what I would say. And don’t allow them the possibility of accessing things which you really do not want them to have, because it will only lead to their advantage and not yours.”

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) filed a time-sensitive motion in the Eastern District of Virginia’s federal court on behalf of journalist Max Blumenthal, seeking the immediate return of two smartphones unlawfully seized and retained by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The motion argues that CBP’s warrantless seizure and continued retention of Blumenthal’s phones violate the First and Fourth Amendments and the Privacy Protection Act. It seeks the immediate return of both devices and all information or copies obtained from them under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 41(g), along with an expedited hearing because the seizure is interfering with Blumenthal’s work, chilling his reporting, and threatening the confidentiality of his sources and unpublished reporting.
CBP detained Blumenthal for approximately two and a half hours after he returned on July 10 from a reporting trip to Iran for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral. Officers questioned him about his journalism, who funded his travel, whether he had been paid for interviews, and whether he planned to return to Iran. When he declined to provide the passcodes to his two phones because doing so could compromise his constitutional rights and confidential sources, an officer said the devices would be “hook[ed] up to machines” to extract their data. CBP seized the phones but left his laptop and camera untouched, despite claiming to be searching for evidence of criminal activity or child sexual material. This inconsistency suggests agents were seeking access to Blumenthal’s private contacts and protected communications, and the differential treatment he experienced compared with other American journalists on the same trip raises the specter of unlawful viewpoint discrimination.’

For more than a decade, I have wholeheartedly backed the man who helped build Canary from nothing but a belief that media should serve the many, not the few.
I have watched him pour his energy and unshakeable principle into creating an independent voice — one that challenges power, holds elites to account, and amplifies those the mainstream ignores.
So when Lloyds Bank suddenly terminated Canary’s business banking facility without a clear explanation, this wasn’t just some sort of bureaucratic inconvenience. It was a direct, calculated assault on press freedom, political dissent, and the very idea of a democratic public sphere.
The Canary has never been neutral. From its founding, it has offered a socialist, anti-austerity, pro-justice perspective that is unapologetically critical of corporate greed, establishment politicians, and the unequal structures that define modern Britain.
It has exposed corruption, backed workers’ struggles, given platforms to marginalised communities (even me), and consistently challenged the narrative served up by billionaire-owned media conglomerates.
Its journalism is rigorous, legal, and widely read. It has never been charged with financial impropriety, money laundering, or unlawful activity.
Yet Lloyds — one of the UK’s largest banks, generously bailed out by the public in 2008 and still deeply intertwined with state power — has chosen to sever its financial lifeline.
Canary: debanked
Without a bank account, a media outlet cannot pay staff, process subscriptions, receive donations, or pay its bills. De-banking is not just closing an account — it is the power to destroy an organisation financially, to starve it of oxygen, and to silence its voice without ever having to win an argument.
The hypocrisy is astounding. When billionaire plaything Nigel Farage had his Coutts account questioned, the political and media establishment erupted in outrage. Heads rolled, inquiries were launched, and protections were promised.
Yet when socialist, anti-war, or pro-justice outlets face the same fate, there is barely a murmur in Westminster or the BBC.
Muslim communities, Palestine campaigners, and left-wing grassroots groups have been de-banked for years with little recourse or public sympathy.
The message is unambiguous: right-wing dissent is treated as a civil liberty, left-wing critique is treated as a risk to be eliminated.
Lloyds is not a neutral service provider. It is a massive corporate institution with its own political and economic interests — deeply embedded in the same financial and political elite that the Canary regularly investigates and criticises.

Sooner or later, expect your bank to send you a letter like this. They won’t even tell you why they are closing your account, and you will probably have trouble opening accounts at other banks. De-banking is a disturbing and growing trend. In short, the ruling elite—parasites, more accurately—have weaponised the banking system to enforce conformity to their preferred narrative. If you speak out against Big Pharma’s poison, a phony climate “crisis,” rigged elections, endless wars sold on lies, or whatever the media is hyping as the “current thing,” expect the financial hammer to come down on you without warning. You could lose your ability to take payment from your customers and pay your bills at the drop of a hat. We’ve seen banks close the accounts of prominent doctors critical of the Covid mass psychosis and politicians opposed to schemes to centralise power on a global level (globalism). However, for every example of a bank closing a high-profile person’s account, hundreds—or thousands—of other ordinary people likely receive the same despicable treatment but are never heard from. Every day people are losing their ability to interact in the economy because the elite have determined they committed a thought crime. Interestingly, the banks never canceled the accounts of the warmongers who spread the lies about WMD in Iraq or the liars that led to the toppling of the Ghadafi government in Libya and the liars that fueled the Syrian conflict. All of their bank accounts are in good standing, even though they contributed to the unnecessary deaths of countless innocents. Nor did the banks close the accounts of those who, for years, peddled the Russiagate lies that tore the country apart or those who claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story was phony when it was, in fact, real and probably affected the outcome of an election. All of their bank accounts are in good standing too. The banks also did not close Jeffrey Epstein’s accounts, even though they were likely aware of what he was up to. These are just a few examples of the blatant double standard. De-banking is another example of how formerly free societies are rapidly descending into high-tech totalitarianism. It’s only prudent to expect de-banking to worsen as governments fall deeper into bankruptcy and become more desperate to maintain control. Controlling the narrative—partly by de-banking anyone with opposing views—is crucial for them to try to hold on to their power. Today you can be de-banked for having the wrong opinion. Tomorrow you could be de-banked for even more trivial reasons. For example, even if you loyally follow whatever the TV tells you to think, the banks may notice you are purchasing “too much” meat or gas and are therefore exceeding your monthly carbon allowance. In the name of saving the planet and maintaining their ESG scores, they’ll close your account.
Think that’s far-fetched? Consider that already, today, Bank of America shares all gun purchases from its clients with the FBI. It would be naive to assume they and other banks don’t automatically share additional data. Or that PayPal recently floated the idea of charging people $2,500 for promoting so-called “misinformation”—a vague propaganda term that really means “information the people in charge don’t want you to know because they’re afraid you will come to a conclusion they don’t like.” It’s not hard to see where the de-banking train is going. We’re only a few stops away from a full-blown social credit system.’

Is there such a thing as ‘antisemitism’, conceived of as racism against the Jews? The dominant picture in academic discourse regarding antisemitism is that the term was coined by a Nazi-adjacent writer, Wilhelm Marr, in 1879, and that it was either rapidly transformed into a term which targeted only the Jews, or that it only ever was a term targeting the Jews. My new investigation shows that view to be entirely incorrect. The most famous exponent of that view was probably Bernard Lewis (seen below in the image with Benjamin Netanyahu and Henry Kissinger). The first person ever described as an “antisemite” – the French scholar Ernest Renan – was actually a Judeophile. Renan’s view was that “Semitic” race was inferior to “Aryan” race. But he did not believe that Ashkenazi Jews were Semites. They were instead “civilised”. 3. The people he was really describing with the term “Semitic” were Arabs and Muslims. He hated Muslims with a passion. 4. The person who described Renan as an “antisemite”, coining the term, was a German scholar called Steinschneider. How did he get it so wrong? Well, at least part of the reason was that he wanted to believe that the Ashkenazim, of which he was one, were actually Semites. 5. Why did he want to believe that? Because he was a Zionist, who had created a secret proto-Zionist society in Vienna in 1838 with two lifelong friends who would go on to play key roles in the development of the Zionist movement. I had a digital camera that I was using was not taken, which is very clearly evidence that the government was not seeking evidence of any criminal activity, was not seeking evidence of anything illicit, and was simply seeking access to my sources, my contacts, and seeking to satisfy the malignant Israeli apartheid government and its cutouts which had been pressuring the Israeli-controlled Trump administration to do this to me. And so, as my phone was held throughout the week, or phones were held throughout the week, the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, led by its new president, Jenin Younes, filed a lawsuit against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, demanding my phones back and alleging that I had been targeted for viewpoint discrimination and targeted for my reporting in violation of my First Amendment and Fourth Amendment rights to things that you unfortunately don’t have there in the authoritarian UK. Soon after the lawsuit was filed, I received a call from the CBP, Customs and Border Patrol, telling me that my phones were ready for me at the airport to retrieve. There was a lot of media attention. There was this lawsuit, the Department of Homeland Security was going to have to go before a judge and so they turned my phones over. I see a clear connection there. This is just my opinion. I see a clear connection. However, the case that we have filed, that the ADC has filed with its team of advocates, real advocates of the people here, advocates of the Constitution doing the most American thing possible, is not moot because we are still seeking any data or copies or information that the US government took from my phone. So the case continues, I do have my phones, the government has not responded and the Israel- aligned elements continue their meltdown and continue to target me to this day. End product development has already been used in infrastructure improvements, agriculture techniques, and other practical applications. The awarding of the degree is based on the prototype’s success. The duration of their PhD program is four years.
In the US, PhD’s are awarded as honorary degrees. They can be bought for a nice price. Or they represent a political statement. The vast majority of engineering PhD’s in the US teach and conduct peer-reviewed research papers. Rarely do they serve any value to the economy or society. The arrest in Ibiza and US justice department extradition request for a wealthy American donor to leftwing causes in connection with alleged material support for Hamas is sending ripples through leftwing circles in Spain and being closely monitored in the US for potential “chilling effects” on support for Palestine. Spanish authorities detained James “Fergie” Chambers on Friday and are now holding him without bail in Madrid. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday on whether he can be released on bail. The Spanish high court has 40 days to decide whether to grant the Trump administration’s extradition request. If the court says no, the case closes there. If it says yes, the Council of Ministers has the final decision, according to a spokesperson for the court. The indictment against Chambers is sealed.
This is the first known case of the US seeking extradition of a citizen arrested and charged with supporting Hamas, according to Stanley Cohen, an attorney with 40 years’ experience working on terrorism cases. “I don’t doubt the decision was made [to seek Chambers’ extradition] because it looks good for Trump, for Aipac and for zionist supporters,” said Cohen, who has been following the case. “It’s a conscious decision to target for political purposes.”
Stella Schnabel, Fergie’s partner, wrote in a statement: “Fergie is being jailed because he uses his wealth to support Palestine and those suffering genocide in Gaza. In short, he is facing political persecution for having dedicated his life to building a better society, rather than exploiting people and profiting from war. He should be with our family, continuing his important humanitarian and social advocacy work.” Chambers has donated more than $1m to humanitarian projects in Gaza, his attorney, Llorenç Salvà, wrote in the same statement. The self-described communist has been extensively profiled in US media and was interviewed on local TV news in New Hampshire in late 2023 about a direct action against Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense contractor, staged by a group whose legal fees he paid, then called Palestine Action.
Chambers has said that he has known for more than a decade that he was on the US federal government’s radar, and the Trump administration, with its focus on targeting US funding for alleged terrorist activities, is now seeking his extradition. Irene Montero, member of the leftist Podemos party and Spanish representative to the European parliament, posted on X on Monday that: “Spain can’t collaborate with Trump in the persecution of solidarity with Palestine: the government should protect him and not surrender him to Netanyahu’s friends.”
Trevor Aaronson, author of several books on the FBI and terrorism, pointed to the notion advanced by Sebastian Gorka, the Trump administration’s top counter-terrorism official, that “all leftist groups are part of some huge network and are active participants in terrorism” He sees the Chambers case as a continuation of “troubling precedents established in the post-9/11 ‘War on Terrorism’ and directed at foreign nationals, now being turned inward, at US citizens”. Aaronson pointed to the Holy Land Foundation case of the mid-2000s, where the legal concept was advanced that money is fungible so that anyone financially supporting, for example, “school books in Gaza – that’s more money that Hamas could then use for terrorism”, since Hamas governs the area, he said. The result of such an argument, including, potentially, with the Chambers case is “a chilling effect, where no one wants to give money to Palestinian groups or to other left groups, because it could be used against them”. Aaronson pointed to the timing of the case. “Arguably, the need for humanitarian aid in Gaza is greater than ever. Conflating that with terrorism is remarkable.”

That diplomat was expelled from Britain in 2024. Keir Starmer parachuted Akehurst into the safe Labour seat North Durham, through a three-person NEC panel that Akehurst himself sat on. He now sits on Labour’s governing body and co runs the factional machine shaping the Labour leadership contest. In October 2025, Akehurst attended a UK-Estonia-Israel strategic mission, a study tour designed to align European politicians on shared defence and security interests with Israel. Paul Cudenec; “For a long time now, I’ve been insisting that if we are to escape falling into the dehumanised and totalitarian hell lined up for us by the global slave masters, we’re going to have to embrace a completely different way of thinking. In the Anarchist Revelation in 2013, I warned that we are today quote,’ boxed in and cut off by the limits we construct around our thinking’, end quote. And in The Withway in 2022, I specified that, quote, ‘depth of thinking is required, depth grown from eternal truths rather than cobbled together from cheap slogans and passing fads’, end quote. One of the sources from which we can draw the deep thinking that will bring us freedom is the great Celtic civilisation that flourished in Europe two millennia ago. For those of us who come from those lands, this is not so much a question of discovering as of remembering. As Jean Markale writes, quote ‘the inhabitants of France and Western Europe have forgotten who they were. There was another system of values, another understanding of reality, another way of thinking and feeling, another conception of spirit’, end quote. This old way of being, in which we could find our true identity, was buried. In France this was initially by Romanisation and then everywhere it came as the result of the domination of the church by followed by the anti-spiritual mindset of industrial modernity. For the Greeks and Romans, Druidism provided a glimpse into the soul of a people very different from them. Markale cites Etienne Renardet as stating, ‘for a Roman the universe stopped at the borders of his country’s possessions. Outside this universe there were just ignorant peoples who were there to be exploited as much as possible. These peoples had primitive religious ideas’, end quote. He himself says of the Mediterranean observers of Celtic culture, quote, ‘in general, they expressed astonishment at the greatness and elevation of a way of thinking which did not belong to their world, which they could only classify as barbarian. This term basically applying to all Europeans, neither yet brought under Roman domination nor influenced by Greek civilisation. We have to recognise a certain Nordic character to this population, or rather this collection of populations who were feared by the Romans, but despite everything, excited their imagination’, end quote. Empire always fears those who think and breathe outside of its boxes of control. And Markale points out that one of the reasons why Julius Caesar invaded Britain in 55 BC was that the people of that island were, quote, ‘regarded with some justification as the real masters of the Celtic way of thinking, which being completely incompatible with the Roman system, represented a permanent danger’, end quote. And this was presumably why 100 years later, the Druidic centre Ynys Môn, Anglesey, was brutally attacked and destroyed by the imperial army, as we saw in a previous essay. Markale adds that in Gaul/France, the Romans banned the Druids from teaching as their doctrine flew in the face of their own outlook and was thus considered quote, ‘a threat to the social order that they wanted to impose’, end quote. Two millennia later, it was those serving the new industrial empire who attacked the Druids’ reputation. Since they no longer presented any physical danger, this instead took the form of derision. Any hint of magic is intolerable for the priests of the rationalist cult of sterility and science. Markale refers to the quote, ‘indignant denunciation of Druidic superstition’, end quote, launched by famed French archaeologist Alexandre Bertrand in his lectures and in his 1896 book La Religion des Gaulois. One important feature of the Celts’ outlook was that they made no distinction between history and myth, as may have become apparent from various improbable accounts already cited in this series of articles. Quote, ‘unlike the Romans, the Celts taught their history mythically and of course they sometimes historicised their myths and thus the ambivalence of Celtic accounts’, end quote, says Markale. This left the more literal-minded Romans and Greeks somewhat baffled. Quote, ‘they seem to have experienced great difficulty in understanding the exact meaning of these legends because of their completely different logic’, end quote. As we saw, the Celts did not build great ostentatious temples in order to worship their gods, but withdrew into the forests to be close to them in their sacred clearings, Nemeta. Markale writes, quote ‘they thought that there existed places, symbolic or real, where the world of humans could open into the world of the gods and vice versa. The Nemeton is this place of sacred exchange. Each Nemeton is the centre of the world. The notion of omphalos, navel of the world, coincides exactly with that of the sanctuary and it does not matter that these sanctuaries were very numerous, they were at one and the same time unique and multiple because, to take up the famous formula, divinity is a circle whose centre is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere. The place where one makes contact with the invisible world, the divine world, is necessarily an absolute centre from which can radiate the forces brought into play’, end quote The author says this vision of the Nemeton reflected an awareness that the human individual is never alone in the world, but in connection with, quote, ‘the great all that is divinity, whatever it is and whatever name we give to it’, end quote. On a conceptual level, I would say that Roman thinking was essentially square or rectangular. Here I’m picturing the Maison Carrée down the road from here in Nimes, and therefore associated with the number four. The fact that this was not the case with the Celts perhaps goes some way to understanding the underlying difference in the two outlooks. Markale explains, quote, ‘the number three, which is symbolically the number of eternity and totality, was particularly favoured by the Celts. The ancient mythico-historical traditions of Wales are all presented in the form of triads, (Trioedd Ynys Prydein, Triads of the Island of Britain), constituted by groups of three persons characterising different functions, three different notable events or three principles. We must also consider the Triskelion, a symbolic ornament that is not of Celtic origin, but which became to some extent the emblem of Celtic civilisation, given its frequent appearance in the Welsh and especially Irish plastic arts’, end quote. According to Françoise Le Roux and Christian-Joseph Guyonvarc’h in their book on the Druids, triads in ancient Celtic culture amounted to quote, ‘a manifestation of multiplicity as a notion subordinate to unity’, end quote. The Celts thinking was not square or linear, but spiralling and spiritual, capable of embracing paradox, of soaring beyond the rules of the material world. Remarks Markale, quote, ‘people will say that it was an irrational way of thinking that does not make sense. The irrational does not exist, or rather it is only a mental structure that is not based on the same references as the contemporary and dominant reasoning of any given civilisation’, end quote. it’s high time we reassessed the Celts’ supposedly irrational, superstitious and barbaric way of thinking and living. We should reflect on the fact that these insulting terms are always implied by imperialists to the peoples they want to conquer and crush. And we should bear in mind that while the suppression of indigenous ways of thinking may be effective on the social surface, it is by no means permanent and complete. Spiralled up inside our hearts is another way of seeing things, another way of existing that is waiting for its chance to break free and burst forth, spinning with wild rage and joy into this cruelly degraded world.”

Dr Iain McGilchrist; “Greek myths have lasted into our world, very, very much so. Certainly when I was growing up one of the books I had by my bed when I went to stay with my grandparents was Greek Myths with extraordinary Victorian illustrations. But nonetheless, the stories are profound and convey truths to this very day. Interestingly, they tended to think of their heroic figures as having a foot in this world and a foot in another world. They were often sometimes the offspring of a union between a God and a human and they had divine properties. Let’s just take one particular Greek myth, which I think is very important because it is about the nature of myth. Sounds a bit postmodern, but I don’t think it is. I’m talking about the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, the story that Orpheus and Eurydice, after they were married, Eurydice was bitten by a poisonous snake and died and descended into the underworld. And Orpheus, who was this God of music, was a very interesting idea in itself, was moved to think that he could actually go into the underworld and use music to speak to the gods and let them give back his dear wife and the story is that he played for the gods and the gods said, okay, we will release Eurydice back to the world to be with you, and she will follow you out of the underworld, but on one condition, that you never look back at her until you’re completely out of the underworld. And why? Well, I think it’s a very interesting point that’s being made, which is that if you look explicitly at her, you will shrink her into a left hemisphere reality, whereas you must hold her in this right hemisphere thing of a trusting relationship, a faithfulness to everything that has gone on in this meeting in the underworld. And then you will achieve the truth of the union again with your wife. And the story is that he was almost out but was so excited he couldn’t help himself turn to look and Eurydice was dragged remorselessly off into the underworld again, never to be seen again. This tells us about the nature of myths, that they are these really important elements that cannot be looked at in that dissecting, denotative frame of mind that we need to be clear about this, in other words, Dawkins’s frame of mind.
It was rather depressing. I saw a clip of Dawkins talking to Jordan Peterson. It was most unenlightening because Dawkins kept saying, well did the Virgin Mary actually lie with a man or was this actually a virgin birth? And Peterson didn’t want to say yes or no, really and I understand why, because he was staying on a vision of what is true that didn’t depend on, as it were, the facts of the case. Now, some people would say it does depend on the facts of the case and I would suggest I understand why and I don’t want to disrespect them for taking that view but I think there are areas on which being agnostic, remaining uncertain is more honourable than being certain either way. In other words, I can’t be sure that the things that normally happen in everyday life are invariably the case. And some of the recent discoveries in the last hundred years of science would teach us that some of the things that we think are obviously the case may not obviously be the case. And there are enough instances of things happening that appear to have a supernatural or… I hate that word because it suggests that it’s not actually natural but we don’t know the full extent of what is natural. But for example, near-death experiences and so forth. Also terminal lucidity and other things which suggest that there’s more going on than we actually know.”

Fauci is not like you and me. Hoping that he will tell the truth under oath upon hard questioning from Senators Rand Paul and Ron Johnson is setting oneself up for disappointment. Witnessing Fauci’s impassive repetition of his 5th Amendment rights in the face of the evidence and truthful information struck me as more than just disappointing, it was demoralising.
Hundreds of thousands of people around the world were watching the hearing. Many doctors and scientists I know expressed optimism for the outcome and the link to the hearing was shared widely. The prevailing sentiment? Things are changing for the better – accountability and justice are finally on the way!
Instead what we got was a public humiliation ritual. Quite a tedious show, in truth, complete with monologues from political sycophants, pawns and actors singing Fauci’s praises. When they weren’t bowing to Fauci, they were scare-mongering about infectious diseases and pandemics – intimidatory tactics. We’ve seen it all before, like the same bad Hollywood script that keeps reiterating in films with different titles. If you haven’t seen the hearing, I would not waste your time on it.
Fauci cannot be touched – and why should we care? Why should we wait, expect and put our hopes on some basic truths cascading from Fauci’s mouth? Fauci will get his comeuppance, but it won’t be from a captured government and judicial system. What goes around, comes around. There is an unseen scorecard that holds us accountable for our conduct on this Earth – and one behaves in an inferior way at one’s peril.
The hearing was not a complete waste of time, however.
Fifth Amendment rights protect people from self-incrimination, double jeopardy, and unfair legal procedures. Key protections include the right to remain silent and not answer difficult questions. By invoking these rights in yesterday’s hearing to avoid answering questions, Fauci very effectively demonstrated just how broken the systems of government and justice are.
Do we really need poker-faced Fauci to confess to the origins of COVID, acknowledge COVID vaccine harms, admit that remdesivir killed people in hospitals and that he lied about ivermectin? Will we only believe the truth when a liar tells it?
And do we need to see Fauci behind bars? I admit it seems appropriate in a fair system but given what we know about what prison means for ‘elite’ associates (example, Jeffrey Epstein), is this really an outcome we should be hanging on for? I for one, couldn’t care less about Fauci or his ilk.
I am grateful to Dr Anthony Fauci, however, for demonstrating just how broken the existing systems are. It empowers me to not vest my hopes and dreams in these outdated, crumbling and corrupt systems, or in the politicians, judges and other actors that persist in propping them up. It empowers me to step away from them and help to create new, ethical systems and societies, based on moral principles, freedom and individual power. In the bleak moral desert that is government, a better way is clear. We, the people, need to be the best that we can be and take back control, starting with our own lives.’

‘The recent Ukrainian strike on an Iranian cargo vessel in the Caspian Sea marks a significant and potentially dangerous escalation in the geopolitical landscape, effectively merging the US proxy war in Eastern Europe with the other ongoing US conflict in the Middle East. This attack, which resulted in the death of a crew member and injured another, was quickly confirmed by Ukrainian officials who justified it as a legitimate strike on a vessel used for military logistics between Russia and Iran. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky explained the attack within a broader narrative of an expanding threat, publicly alleging that Russia is providing crucial satellite intelligence to Iran (which Russia denies). Conversely, Iranian officials have offered a different interpretation, suggesting that the attack was instigated by Israel to draw Europe directly into the Middle Eastern conflict, thereby broadening the war’s front lines. Iran’s official reaction has been one of sharp condemnation, summoning Ukraine’s charge d’affaires and warning that it reserves the right to take “appropriate action” to defend its national interests, with some sources indicating that a retaliatory ballistic missile strike against a strategic target in Ukraine is under serious consideration.
The strategic importance of the Caspian Sea as a new front is paramount to understanding the gravity of this incident. The world’s largest inland body of water has evolved into a critical economic lifeline for Iran, serving as a vital conduit for trade and essential goods that bypass the heavily contested Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, which are subject to significant geopolitical pressures and US naval blockades. By striking a vessel in this relatively stable region, Ukraine has directly targeted a key node of Iran’s strategic infrastructure, transforming what once were calm waters into an active theatre of operations by violating the security mechanisms that had governed the area. The public stance of the US administration is ambiguous as President Donald Trump has publicly stated his trust in the commitments from both Chinese and Russian leaders that they are not supplying weapons to Iran, a position that appears to distance him and his administration from the allegations of Russian complicity being promoted by Ukraine. Alexander Mercouris; “We overlook the fact that the United States is involved in two wars. One is the one in Ukraine and the other is the war with Iran. The war with Iran is not going well. There are shortages of weapons systems in American arsenals, the production rates of these weapons is not keeping up with the needs of the US military and there are rumours and reports that the Russians have been giving help to Iran. Denied by the Russians, denied by the Iranians, but perhaps believed by the Americans. So the Americans wanted to talk, I suspect, to the Russians about all of that, to try to get the Russians to stop helping the Iranians, if the Russians really are helping the Iranians and to see whether some kind of negotiation on that issue might begin and whether the Russians might help with Iran altogether. And again, I think the answer from the Russians were straightforwardly no, they’re not prepared to pull America’s coals out of the fire, as far as they’re concerned, the Americans have walked away from Anchorage, they’re assisting Ukraine in this drone offensive. Until that changes, from a Russian point of view there is nothing really there to talk about.”
Glenn Diesen; “At best I think the Americans will be able to offer them some strategic sequencing, that is we’ll lower the pressure on Russia until we’ve defeated Iran and if you help us do that then we’ll go back to killing you afterwards. It doesn’t seem to get better than this, but with all this…I just assume that the Russians and Chinese were assisting Iran in order to help in picking targets after the Americans waging a 12-year long proxy war on Russia, I don’t see why the Russians would restrain themselves anymore. But I guess on that topic of Russia shedding its restraint, the increasing attacks on Russia with these long range missiles and drones, the way NATO countries are openly calling for financing it, arguing that this is what’s needed in the war, bring the war deeper and deeper into Russia. And they see of course NATO’s direct hand in waging this war on Russia. Everyone knows Russia has essentially two options then, either they capitulate or they escalate. And of course you don’t capitulate in a war which you consider to be an existential threat. But many wonder how will they escalate, will they go after the Ukrainian proxy or go after the western handlers? And it appears that so far they’re going after Ukraine, but do you see any structure there? Because you see now the blockade on Odessa, they’re hitting Kyiv fairly hard, I’m surprised they didn’t go after a lot of these weapon production facilities earlier in the war. Four and a half years into this, how are you assessing Russia going up the escalation ladder and how significant is this attack on Odessa and Kyiv?”
Alexander Mercouris; “If we talk about the restraint, the Russians have shown extraordinary restraint in this war, a degree of restraint which has caused us a certain amount of frustration on the Russian side. But I think that was there always in order to allow room for negotiations. The western escalation is making the idea of negotiations, where it’s discrediting the idea of negotiations in Russia. And I think the failure of Anchorage has also played an important role here. The fact that an apparent agreement was reached and fell apart immediately, has strengthened those people in Moscow who say, there’s really no point in this, we’ve just got to go on, carry on with our business, which is winning the war, and forget about what the Americans and the Europeans might want, because ultimately we’re never going to negotiate a resolution with them. So we are seeing the Russians shed their restraints and coming back to Odessa, you see it now in the starkest terms. Back in July 2022, Russia agreed, at UN urging, and with the support of the Turkish government and other western governments, a grain deal to secure commercial shipping in the Black Sea. And the idea was that if the Ukrainians didn’t attack their ships, they wouldn’t attack the Ukrainian ships and there would be no blockade of Odessa. And one of the reasons they did that was because they found that many of their friends of the Global South wanted that. They wanted a ceasefire of this kind in the Black Sea, which would allow shipments of grain to enter the world food chain, which would keep food prices low in Global South countries. Over the last few weeks, the Russians have put all of this to one side. They are now attacking Odessa relentlessly, they’re attacking ships that are in the ports of Odessa. They have, in effect, enforced a total blockade not just of Odessa, but of Ukraine’s entire Black Sea coast. You see Ukrainian officials in despair about this, that Ukraine’s ability to export basically has been blown away. There’s been an analysis done which says that the alternative of shipping goods through Constanta isn’t really cost effective. So this has been a disaster for Ukraine. And we could see how all of those escalations, one escalation after another, has led to the Russians dropping inhibitions, which back in 2022 determined their behaviour. What we are seeing happen in Odessa today never happened in 2022 and it looked for a time as if it would never happen.”
Glenn Diesen; “I read something about Ukraine wanting to take this to the United Nations this complaint that the Russians are hitting their civilian vessels. And indeed, you see this in much of the media and the NATO countries as well, the barbarity of Russia striking ports and civilian ships. But the Ukrainians and the NATO media only a few days ago were celebrating how Ukraine was striking civilian vessels in the sea of assault. It’s quite extraordinary. The only way you can get away with this strange thinking when you celebrate attacking civilian ships one day and condemn it the next is if it’s always the good guy and bad guy. Otherwise, how can you explain this? There’s no common principles anymore. There’s no rules. It’s just cheering for the right side, it seems.”
Alexander Mercouris; “Cheering for the right side and extraordinary levels of information manipulation. I remember In George Orwell’s 1984 the novel, there’s a passage in which they speak about the fact how the authorities, the state that there is in 1984, cheer on, celebrate atrocities when they’re committed by their own side, even as they condemn them when they’re carried out against their own people. And that’s exactly what we see now. You’re absolutely correct. The attacks on Odessa began on this enormous scale directly after Ukraine began to attack grain ships in the Sea of Azov, Russian grain ships, and the people who pushed for the grain deal in July 2022, people like Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General, were silent about it. They didn’t come out, they didn’t condemn it, they didn’t say, this is wrong, they didn’t say this is potentially going to destroy the whole shipping of grain and the result was the Russians said, well, in that case, there’s no point in us abiding by these restraints anymore. We are going to strike Odessa. And Lavrov has spoken about this. He talked about this today. He said it was a UN initiative. The July 2022 deal was a UN initiative instigated by Guterres which was made purely on behalf of Ukraine.”

Jeffrey Sachs; “Brzezinski in The Grand Chess Board explains, the aim is American primacy. The threats are the big powers, Russia and China. The solution is to weaken or defeat them or replace their regimes one way or another. The way to do that, in part, is by what Brzezinski called geopolitical pivot states and a geopolitical pivot is a place, as Brzezinski explains, that doesn’t matter to Americans, except that it’s useful leverage against the big powers. And Ukraine is number one on Brzezinski’s list. Brzezinski spelled out in 1997, we will take Ukraine and thereby Russia will no longer be a major power and so geopolitical pivot number one is we will take Ukraine. Well, the idea was spelled out decades ago. They keep trying to and millions of people are killed and wounded in the process, Ukraine is destroyed as a state in the process, doesn’t matter, easy to keep fighting and how exciting, now that we can fight with the Maven system, we can improve our AI capabilities, we can have a major initiative on advanced drone technologies and all the rest, it’s just wonderful. So the geopolitical pivots remain. What was number two on Brzezinski’s list in 1997? Iran. Well, lo and behold, Iran, he explained, that’s the pivot for the Gulf region, for the Mideast energy resources, and for the Caspian Sea region. Control Iran, you control all of that. So all of this is deeply seated. Little of it has to do with Trump actually. He does express the venality and the corruption of all of it perfectly. He channels the greed, the corruption, the violence but it’s not really him, because this is how it was with Biden and it’s how it was with Trump one when he helped Ukraine to build its Million Person Army. And that’s how it was with Obama, with the many wars that Obama prosecuted and with the couple in Ukraine in 2014. And it’s how it was with Bush 1 and it’s how it was with Bill Clinton and who started this whole process when the Soviet Union ended. Clinton was the president beginning in 1993 that set the path that our goal is now primacy. Actually, the idea was even at the end of the Bush senior presidency, in the 1992 strategy of the Pentagon written by Wolfowitz, but it was Clinton that set us on the way. So to my mind, Clinton, Bush Jr. Obama, Trump 1, Biden, Trump 2. It’s been pretty much all the same. Perpetual war. Always a good reason to continue. Never give up. Why give up? No real constraints. Someday we’ll win. And in the meantime, you don’t have to count the dead. It’s somebody else’s dead.
Everybody can see this is impossible. So if people would open their eyes, it’s a failed venture that’s leading us closer and closer to war. It is true that when the bubble bursts of this delusion, it’s going to change a lot actually and it’s actually going to burst a financial bubble that the US rides on as well because a lot of the US stock market boom of the last 20 years is a primacy bubble in some sense as well. So there’s going to be a reckoning and it’s going to not be pleasant entirely but it could save us to have a realism that arises from all of this. But right now don’t count on the realism coming from Washington or Brussels or Berlin but if it comes at all before mass destruction, it will come from the general public.”
Truth is the first casualty of war
Listen; John Mearsheimer: The End of Russian Restraint & New U.S. Grand Strategy, Glenn Diesen, 3 July 2026
John Mearsheimer; “One of the reasons I believe these Russian casualty numbers are simply wrong is that the Russians pursue their offensives in a very cautious way because they are interested in minimising casualties. If you look carefully at Russian tactics on the battlefield and Russian strategy more generally, they go to enormous lengths to minimise the number of casualties. So this is a case where huge numbers of Russians are not dying in mindless frontal attacks that fail, as many in the west would like you to believe. The Russians are very cautious. They’re suffering casualties for sure, especially because there are all those Ukrainian drones up in the sky. But the casualty numbers are not that high. And this, of course, is why that New York Times story is laughable.”
Glenn Diesen; ” I think this is a key thing, what you said about Vietnam, but that is essentially the lie about war to buy time in order to find that magic formula you refer to. And I think that’s also what happened in Afghanistan. If you look at the Afghanistan papers, they knew things weren’t going well and they did cover it up. And again, why would you fight a losing war? And I do think that the assumption is if you can just keep it going, you cling on to hope, something might turn up, the economy could collapse, the fronts could collapse, or worst case, gradually drain the enemy so they will end up weaker thereafter. I’m assuming we had other ideal outcomes for Libya, Syria, all of these countries, but, worst case, one drains a destabilised enemy. But it’s also interesting what you said about how to measure success, because if you look at Ukraine, the best way or favourite way by the western political media establishment has been to measure progress based on territorial shifts. But as you and I know, that doesn’t make much sense when you’re fighting a war of attrition, because you don’t spend all your forces fighting, storming well fortified lines. You drain and weaken the adversary. And once the front line collapse, then you take the territories.”
John Mearsheimer; “I think it all revolves around the fact that if you tell yourself these stories long enough, you really come to believe them. You see this in the United States with regard to Iran. People have been talking about Iran as this incredibly dangerous threat for so long, even though it’s not a threat to the United States in any meaningful way, that nevertheless, the elites believe and most Americans believe. One of the downsides that we face living in a world where facts and logic don’t matter very much is that you end up in situations like the one that we face in Europe, where the Europeans, not the Russians, are talking about the inevitability of World War 3. And the Russians are put in a position where they have come to conclude, ‘if the Europeans think that war is inevitable and they’re preparing for war against us, we have no choice but to prepare for that same war’. And of course, once they do that, that provides ammunition for people in the West to say, ‘oh, look at the Russians’. They’re the ones who are preparing for World War 3. This is the classic security dilemma. Whatever the Russians do for defensive purposes looks offensive to people in the West and vice versa. So we’re in this spiral situation, which I don’t see any way out of at this point in time. People like us try to talk sense in this discourse, but we’re small voices compared to the mainstream media, that’s the problem. So we have this situation where Western elites have convinced themselves that the Russians are truly dangerous and that we’re heading for a major conflict down the road.
Let’s just talk a little bit about the casualty numbers. The New York Times had this piece on the relative balance of casualties, meaning killed in action plus wounded. They also had numbers of soldiers killed on both sides and apparently the New York Times article was based on a study that had been done by a think tank in Washington D.C. the CSIS. And the argument was that roughly around 450,000 Russians had died and somewhere between 125,000 and 150,000 Ukrainians had died. So let’s take the high end number for the Ukrainians which is 150,000 and again, the Russian number is 450,000. That’s a three to one ratio, that means that three Russians have died for every Ukrainian. This is simply unbelievable. This cannot be the case. I don’t understand where these numbers come from. First of all, the main killer on the battlefield is artillery and throughout most of the war the estimates are that the Russians have had at least a 5 to 1, if not 7 to 1 or 10 to 1 advantage in artillery. If you look at these bombs, these smart bombs that are dropped from the air, the Russians have a huge inventory of smart bombs that they’ve been dropping on Ukrainians. The Ukrainians have virtually no smart bombs that they’ve been dropping on the Russians. You might say to yourself, well, it’s the Russians who have mainly been on the offensive. Well, there’s two problems there. One is that the Ukrainians have launched a large number of offensives. Remember the Kursk offensive? Remember the famous June 4, 2023 offensive, the one that was going to result in a blitzkrieg that took the Ukrainians to the Sea of Azov and cut the Russian front lines in half? In 2022, the first year of the war, the Russians suffered two defeats because the Ukrainians launched major offensives in Kherson and Kharkiv. And then we hear about all these Ukrainian counter attacks these days. Those are offensive operations. So the Ukrainians have been on the offensive for a good part of the war, and therefore you can’t make the argument that they’ve been on the defensive and because the defence suffers less casualties than the offence does in almost all cases, we should not be surprised by that number that the New York Times uses. You can’t justify those numbers that way. It just makes no sense at all. And I think, if anything, that we’re going to find out that the Ukrainians lost probably around or have lost, here when I say lost, I mean killed in action, around a million men. I think the argument that they’ve lost 150,000 is ludicrous and it just makes no sense at all. And nevertheless, this is reported as fact and it is a set of facts, what I’m describing is a set of facts that all sorts of people use to assess what the situation is between Russia and Ukraine and what we should do moving forward. And if you believe these numbers, which again, I think are ridiculous, you can justify upping the ante and trying to help Ukraine really clobber the Russians and knock the Russians off as a great power, finish them off as a great power. And lots of people talk that way and you just sort of say to yourself, are they making all of this up? Are they making these numbers up? Do you think the New York Times is making these numbers up? I don’t think they’re making them up, I think they really believe them. Again, there may be all sorts of motivated biases at play here that they are not aware of, but putting that aside, the fact is the elites have told themselves a story that they believe and they continue to march forward based on these false narratives.”
Ian Proud, a retired UK diplomat, discusses why the anti-Russian sanctions will not work, and also how the war will likely end.

Glenn Diesen; “So how can you explain this? 27 member states, none of its leaders want to talk to their opponents?”
Ian Proud; “Well, to answer that question, the best answer really is to think about foreign policy itself. And foreign policy is not the same as diplomacy. Diplomacy is the tool that you use to advance your foreign policy. Now the Europeans, whenever you hear their leaders, their foreign policy is to defeat Russia. Actually, even though there’s no real evidence that Ukraine can win the war – quite the opposite – the European and the British policy appears to be to maintain strategic patience and wait for Russia to crumble under the pressure of economic sanctions, which I’ve said before, don’t really work, of the military, battlefield losses and that sort of thing. Well, if that is the foreign policy, then implicitly diplomacy isn’t required because diplomacy isn’t part of that equation. So it’s only really when the foreign policy changes that you might see diplomacy. The foreign policy should be, how can we secure peace in Ukraine? That would be a rational foreign policy. What is the best, the quickest and the least harmful for Ukraine route for us to bring this devastating war to an end.
Kaja Kallas has variously said that she wants to see the breakup of Russia, which is a completely fantastical kind of statement for apparently Europe’s top diplomat to make. Several European leaders have said that, including Alexander Stubb, that they want to see Russia weakened. Several European leaders have said that this can’t really end until Putin goes and his regime is overthrown. So, look across the piece and you’ll see these things. The question then comes back to, ‘is that likely?’ Is it realistic to expect that Russia is going to break into separate parts, the world’s largest nuclear superpower? I’ve lived in Russia for four and a half years, and it is an incredibly complex and diverse country in a way that actually most people who’ve never been to Russia don’t really understand. But it’s also very, very unified. And that sense of external threat is very strong and therefore, much to the surprise of many in Europe, Putin remains remarkably popular compared to European leaders. That doesn’t mean there isn’t domestic political pressure in Russia, of course there is. Of course the war is taking its toll, but regime changes never really look likely. So the breakup of the country just appears completely absurd. When it comes to weakening economically, Russia has performed better despite thousands and thousands of sanctions. Economically, Russia’s found itself in a much more resilient place than the rest of Europe and Britain, just from essentially 12 years of having navigated the kind of complex geo-economic movements that have taken place not just because of sanctions, but because of oil price movements, because of COVID. People don’t understand that Russia has a very, very competent macro-economic policy team, really powerful central bank governor, and finance minister, who’ve been in the job since 2014. People think that Russia is run by idiots who don’t really know how to manage the economy. Actually, in the UK, in European countries we’ve seen ministers come and go. I did a calculation that since the Ukraine crisis started, Germany, France and Britain had 23 different finance ministers. Well, Russia’s has had a remarkable amount of policy clarity that has given it economic resilience, which you simply don’t have in Europe or in the United Kingdom.”
Steve Jermy, a retired navy commodore, says NATO wouldn’t win a war with Russia.

Glenn Diesen; “The European leaders are making a lot of comments about preparing for war with Russia, even setting dates, so stating the intent. They’re also developing the capabilities. Again, if you’re sitting in Moscow, you’re doing a threat assessment, you look at the intentions and capabilities, and a clear threat begins to emerge. So I was wondering if you can unpack your argument, because it doesn’t really seem as if the Europeans are ready for war with Russia.”
Steve Jermy, RN (Retired); “No, I don’t think they are, Glenn. I think the reason that I wrote the article, is because I don’t think they have really thought through the potential costs and consequences of such a war. I think what they’re essentially thinking is that Russia will sit quietly as they prepare for war and then in 2030 they’ll be ready to go but before that, they can fire as many, or they can provide as many missiles and cruise missiles and drones to attack into Russia with no reaction from Russia and both of those things go completely against what’s being said and heard in Russia. Indeed, even Putin recently said, I think it was to new graduates on police and armed forces and things like that, that the Europeans were preparing for a war and that they, Russia would prepare as well. I think what the Europeans fundamentally don’t seem to understand, or I should say our European elites, Glenn, the leaders, don’t seem to be understand that as far as Russia is concerned, this is a defensive war, they are in a defensive posture and everything that they are doing is to protect themselves from what they see as NATO expansion and getting closer and closer to the borders about which they’ve argued for years and years and year, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to us, but the Europeans seem to see it as something of colonial ambition. I can’t think why Russia would want to take over Europe. But more fundamentally, what the European leaders also haven’t done is to actually think through what that war would be like. As I say in the article, the first thing is that there’s no guarantee, indeed quite the opposite, that the Russians would wait until 2030. I think it’s much more likely that they would respond early. Indeed, I have a strong suspicion, although I can’t prove it, that one of the reasons that the Russians went into the Donbas in 2022 was that the general staff had argued that actually the longer they left it then the more damaging, because the greater forces that they would have to face. So I suspect that was part of Putin’s calculation and I think the same calculation would transpire now. The thing that’s most striking, of course, is that the E3, that’s Germany, Britain and France, are speaking loudly about the provision of weapons to strike deep into Russia and the idea that the Russians are going to sit back and just let that happen, it’s clearly a guess that Russia won’t respond and yet the Russians said explicitly that actually they have not taken off the table, which means that it’s on the table responses that actually target certain European facilities. The premise that I had in the article was that actually this war starts sooner than the Europeans plan, because the Russians decide that in the face of European bellicosity, they need to act now to deter future attacks against them. So the way that I started the article, Glenn, was to suggest that actually Russia does indeed strike and decides to strike the production facilities in Europe, in particular in Germany, in France and in Britain, of the places where the drones and the cruise missiles are being developed, to actually then send to Ukraine to attack Russia. And my next guess, and it is only a guess, I should say it’s a scenario, it’s not a forecast, but the next guess is that the Europeans invoke Article 5. They then realise that Article 5 doesn’t commit people to collective action, it commits them to do whatever they think is best and I suspect that some nations will not want to go to war with Russia, so they will provide us with lots of warm words but no military support. I think that’s particularly likely to be the case, I suspect, for the United States, not least of all because actually they’re now just suffering from a defeat in Iran and with depleted stock so I suspect that although they may have pivoted at the G7 towards supporting attacks against Russia, that they’ll now look at this and say, ‘I’m not so sure this is a good idea. I’m not so sure that extending Russia is a good idea because it now clearly carries the risk of a land war on the European continent’. The last thing that Americans will want to do is to send American soldiers to fight and die in Europe against Russia. So I suspect that they too will stand back and suddenly the E3 will find that they’re on their own. But my next guess, and it is a guess, is that the E3 then decide to respond nevertheless with their attacks against Russia and find that they suffer from exactly the same problems that the Americans have found in their attacks against Iran, which is that there are effective, very effective air defence systems in place which are well practiced, the S400 and S500 that as well as actually taking down most of the offensive missiles, they also extract a heavy toll on our aircraft. And that in parallel, because the Russians see that we’re attacking them, they then decide to actually take the gloves off and go after our energy infrastructure in exactly the same way that they did in Ukraine. And quick as a flash, straight on the back end of our consequences of self-defeating sanctions on Russia, which have closed off our oil and gas supplies from Russia and now under the pressure of the Strait of Hormuz reductions in supplies, we suddenly find that Europe is in an energy crisis which quickly becomes an economic crisis. So I suspect that the only thing we’ll be able to do at that stage is sue for peace because there are no other offensive options which would work. So that’s the nub of the argument.”

It’s not obvious what the Russians can do to break the growing link between Ukraine and the West. And this, of course, segues into the whole Sergey Karaganov argument about what Russia should do in the face of this threat. But the point I’m making to you, Glenn, just to encapsulate my argument, is that Ukraine and the west are growing closer and closer together. The west is becoming more invested in the Ukraine war than it ever has been. And from the Russian point of view, it’s quite clear that what the west and Ukraine together want to do is they want to defeat Russia. And, and the question is, how can Russia avoid that outcome?”
Glenn Diesen; ” I have to say from Moscow as well, that they see now the diplomacy with the US as being essentially nonsense, while with the Europeans there’s no diplomacy at all. And as you said, I think there’s a good understanding now that NATO is waging a war on Russia. But given this problem, that is Ukraine and Europe or even NATO are growing closer and closer together, how do you think this will impact the Russian objectives for what the end of the war will look like? Because again, the Russians invaded in 2022 to de-couple Ukraine from the NATO alliance because they see this as an existential threat. Does this increase then or expand the demands in war? Do they need more territory? Putin, he made a reference to liberating Novorossiya, and that’s a very different piece of territory. Now you’re talking Mikolayev, you’re talking Odessa, you’re talking Kharkov, this is very different territorial ambition. Is this where they’re headed? Given that there is no diplomatic path, there’s no willingness to even talk to Russia from where the Europeans are. But also, as you said, if they’re getting closer and closer, any deal that comes with a promise of Ukrainian neutrality, I would assume it wouldn’t be worth much because as we’ve seen now with the war on Iran, we can sign any documents we want, we’re not actually going to implement them. So how do you think the war objectives of Russia is changing given that the west is wedding itself so closely now to Ukraine?”
John Mearsheimer; “Well, I’ve long argued that this war will eventually end with Russia conquering a large slice of Ukrainian territory and Ukraine coming out of this conflict as a dysfunctional rump state. Now, the key question that is raised by your comments is how much territory will the Russians take and how dysfunctional and how small will that rump state be the more the war goes on and the closer the relationship between the Europeans and the Americans on one side and the Ukrainians on the other side, and is how close the closeness of that relationship will affect how the Russians think about taking territory and how dysfunctional they want that rump state to be. I think given what’s happening, the Russians have a vested interest in taking much more territory than the four oblasts they’ve already annexed. And I think they certainly want to take Odessa. And they want to make sure that Ukraine has no ports on the Black Sea and moreover, they want to make sure that Ukraine is as dysfunctional a rump state as possible. The more dysfunctional Ukraine is, the better. This is why people like you and I have argued for a long time the Ukrainians should have cut a deal with the Russians, accepted the fact that they have to be a neutral state, and then done everything to improve relations with Russia so that they minimised how dysfunctional Ukraine turned out to be. But that’s not the direction that this conflict is going in. And given the pressure that’s being put on the Russians and given the Ukrainians and the west want to win the war, want to knock the Russians out of the ranks of the great powers, the Russians have a deep seated interest in wrecking Ukraine as much as they can, taking as much territory as they can. So I think that’s where the incentive structure is today for the Russians. But the big question that you have to ask yourself is do the Russians have the capability to take a lot more territory? As you and I both know very well, as everybody knows very well, the Russians have had a devil of a time conquering all of the territory in those four oblasts that they annexed. They’ve really only conquered all of the territory in one of the four oblasts, although they do control a huge amount of territory in the other three, but they don’t control all the territory. So the question is, once they do capture all the territory in those four oblasts, will they then have the military capability to take more territory, to take Kharkiv, to take Odessa at some reasonable cost? And I think at this point in time, it’s hard to be certain what the answer is to that question. So that’s the capability side of the story. But going back to the incentives, there’s no question that they have a powerful incentive to do everything they can to wreck Ukraine and take as much territory as they can absorb.”

And there’s a recorded instance, according to zionist sources, where they actually opened fire on FLN guerillas and killed them. This was sabotaged by their contacts in the Moroccan secret services who they subsequently did a deal with and they reshaped the Moroccan secret services, this is Mossad, in order to be more friendly to Israel. So that’s part of the reason why you have a much more friendly relationship between Morocco and Israel. This is going back many decades now than you have in Tunisia and in Algeria. So this is an ongoing process where the objectives of Israeli foreign policy is to undermine any government which will oppose it and that’s the case in Tunisia and that’s the case also in Algeria.”

And after that, rather than just restore the status quo anti, the Israelis arranged for it to be split. I think it’s something like 63% Jewish and 37% Muslim. And something similar, it feels like is being planned. It’s going to become a sort of multi-faith centre. I’m not particularly political, but I have observed that the world seems to have become very political. I’m a scientist and a Christian, but also a person utterly disappointed by the conduct of his own country, institutions, government and even Monarchy, such that they know longer enjoy my loyalty. I acknowledge everyone is free to express their personal opinions, and I defend people’s rights to do so. That said, I am concerned by my association on this email list with people who seem to be openly calling for the collapse of Israel, which is not something I can be associated with. Whilst I acknowledge there does appear to be deep atrocities on both sides, I can never support such a call. I don’t fully understand the history of the region, but I know it has long Biblical roots. I acknowledge my ignorance in all matters. Yet, as a people and as a nation, I support the country of Israel and in my mind I can separate the nation and its people from the actions of its governments in how it chooses to litigate its conflicts. I can only reject any such statements that call for the collapse of Israel as a nation, especially since such statements are consistent with the ambitions of the ideological enemies of the West. This is my personal view.

I respect your decision entirely and all future emails concerning zionism and Israel, you will not be included. As someone who had experienced having a very generous Jewish family as very good business friends of my parents, a family who had fled from Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia to Britain but who had disapproved strongly with what zionism (a political creed) had done to Judaism, I knew from a very early age that many Jews were and are, totally opposed to the existence of Israel. As I pointed out in my polite email to this Labour MP, my father went to his grave saying that the State of Israel had no moral right to exist after the carrying out of the Nakba and the murder of the UN Special Envoy for Peace, Count Folke Bernadotte. And that is why my simple question goes unanswered.
What I believe should now happen, especially in the light of how the bulk of the world has totally censured the current regime of Netanyahu, is that the international community should now call for the creation of a new country – perhaps simply called The Holy Land or Judeo-Palestine – where all three Abrahamic faiths can co-habit in peace and prosperity. The evil and secret cult of the Sabbatean-Frankists, which created both zionism and islamism, must be outed for the monstrous entity that it is. It believes the more evil you can do in the world, the quicker you find God. And this is certainly true when it comes to the killing, maiming and sexual abuse of children. The most sickening thing about Israel today is that it is actually protecting hundreds if not thousands of wanted paedophiles who have fled to Israel to escape justice.
The State of Israel cannot now be morally defended on any front. IMHO, (in my humble opinion) only a new country built on solid human values will suffice. A two state solution is now clearly out of the question as zionist settlers are running amok, egged on by the likes of Daniella Weiss, one of the most openly evil and disturbed individuals alive today.

Dennis Kucinich; “It’s an interesting question because Netanyahu has basically discounted the authority of the President of the United States. He’s done that. When President Trump was trying to end this war against Iran, that was started at the behest of Netanyahu, and what did he need? One of the things he needed was for Israel to stop attacking South Lebanon. That was one of the conditions that Iran asked for. Didn’t happen. And Netanyahu publicly defied the President of the United States as if he, as head of a nation of 9, 10 million people, is superior to a man whose head of a nation of 340 million people. You have to look at this. This is so weird that Israel could be actually jeopardising an agreement that would end a war that has resulted not just 168 children being killed, and the leader of Iran, whose funeral is still ongoing right now as we speak, but also had a devastating effect on our economy. That war is going to cost about a trillion dollars. Most of it will go to national debt, which is a whole other story, because the more debt we’re in, the more vulnerable we are, because we got to make the interest payments and that means we have less money to take care of things we need right now. America’s in a trap right now, we’ve dug ourselves a hole and the only difference between a hole and a grave is in the dimensions. And I don’t want to have this merger lead America to its own destruction. And we’re not in good shape right now. When the President of the United States can be told by some guy who’s just a hustler who is trying to finagle his way through another election to survive so he doesn’t go to jail. Let’s be real about this, Netanyahu is facing jail, and so his policies are aimed at keeping himself out of jail. He didn’t care about the United States, he sure didn’t care about what President Trump wants, all he cares about is staying out of jail and staying in power if he can. And so what does that mean? Attack South Lebanon, forget whatever America wants to do in ending the war in Iran and everyone’s going to pay for it. The people are going to pay for it in South Lebanon with their lives and people around the world are going to pay for damage to the world economy. It’s lives, I’ll put that superior to every other concern. But the fact is we all know about the knock-on effects of the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz or Bab-el-Mandeb or anything that interferes with the flow of energy is going to cause the price to go up. Americans have experienced that and we’re going to keep experiencing that because the opportunity for peace keeps ebbing away. And we’ve learned recently that Israel was planning to kill Iran’s peace negotiators. There’s an assassination plot to kill the principal representatives of Iran because it’s not in Israel’s interest to have peace. They don’t know what peace looks like. They think peace is a threat to their existence and so when you get that kind of an equation, you’re going to have forever war. And we bring them into the Department of Defence. We have for forever war.. What about America? Why aren’t we having discussions about what America’s interests are here?”

Daniel Levy, former Israeli peace negotiator and president of the US/Middle East Project, joins Rania Khalek to explain what “Greater Israel” actually is: annexation in Palestine, military occupation zones in Lebanon and Syria, and beyond that, a region where every state is subservient, dependent, or collapsed. Levy breaks down why Israel has no recognised borders by design, how the Lebanon “framework agreement” serves the Israelis and was signed by a Lebanese government that got nothing in return, why Israeli leaders now openly declare that Turkey is next, and the contradiction at the heart of it all: Netanyahu calls Israel a superpower while insisting it was on the brink of annihilation. Daniel Levy; “The part of Greater Israel which I think we fail to understand, if we too narrowly confine ourselves to where Israel settles illegally its citizens, or maintains a direct military occupation, is the Israeli project for establishing regional dominion, hard power, regional hegemony, domination. And it all derives, as far as I’m concerned, from the Palestinian issue to begin with. Because if you have an Israel which knows that its goal in the region is to permanently not just prevent any Palestinian national realisation of self-determination, freedom, rights, but to eradicate that very possibility with the Palestinian national collective, then that is not an Israel designed to be accepted in the region. Even if you have regional elites, regional leaderships, who through their modalities of governance can prevent the will of their citizens coming to the fore on this stuff, it’s still not something that they can openly embrace too closely, too often as part of that project of maintaining their own credibility, quiet at home. So that leads Israel to pursue a project which is about how can we maintain primacy? I think that’s of relatively recent vintage. I think it goes along with a real shift in the zeitgeist and a real absence of realpolitik and pragmatism. I’m not talking about kind of progressive values here, just real politique and shift inside the Israeli system. What that means is that Israel is looking to assert itself in a region where it is surrounded by states that are either in relations of subservience and dependency vis-a-vis Israel or our allies on terms that Israel establishes, or states that simply have collapsed, have imploded to the degree to which they can pose no threat. They may not see themselves as directly coming under this umbrella, but who cares? Israel will probably work with minorities in those states. That’s the project. The war that Israel brought America into, I don’t want to say it was only Israeli considerations, but without the Israeli consideration, it wouldn’t have happened, with Iran is a crucial part of that project because of the role that Iran played in leading a bloc, axis of resistance, whatever. And the design for Iran, Israel had this love affair with Reza Pahlavi, the scion of the Shah. It didn’t really believe that it could do neat regime change. Even these reports on Ahmadinejad. I’m not buying the idea that this was the project. The project was collapse Iran, have chaos there, have fragmentation, dismantling. It’s a project we’ve seen elsewhere.”

There’s even a set of understandings with the other guy who went on a journey like this with Israel, with Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the PA, about disarming Palestinians in the camps. So this is quite unprecedented stuff in terms of a way of Israel and a Lebanese government working to create a different politics in which Hezbollah would be more contained..And I can understand how, having done all that, having seen that Israel was incredibly shock, horror, unresponsive in terms of doing things that would strengthen the government that was working so closely with Israel. Indeed, no one reads their history or even bothers paying attention to what Israeli leaders and spokespeople were saying. But then along comes this Iran negotiation with the US and Iran sets itself up effectively as the defender of Lebanese sovereignty, which is a huge problem for the government sitting in Beirut that has tried to make the case that that is precisely what it’s doing. So in the MoU signed between the US and Lebanon, the very first clause says that the military activity has to end on all fronts and one has to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states. And it names Lebanon, it says, including Lebanon. So Iran has just negotiated Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon. More than that, according to what’s written on paper at least, I don’t know if the Americans know how to read either, Iran has just negotiated that Lebanese sovereignty would be respected, which is something that Israel hasn’t done for decades, of course, because Israel violates sovereign Lebanese airspace absolutely at will. Telling that to someone in Beirut feels a bit redundant.
So, facing that reality, the Lebanese government made a very, to my mind, strange choice. It says, let’s negotiate a worse deal with the Israelis, but at least we’re the ones negotiating it. Presumably that somewhere in there was the logic. What were the threats? What were the incentives? I don’t know. Did they believe that? Because this would be them showing that they represent Lebanon and can deliver for Lebanon, not Iran, that Israel would therefore deliver for them. Anyone who thinks that, just go back and do 101 on Israel and how it operates, speak to anyone who’s been involved in three decades on the Palestinian side of negotiations with Israel. And if you bend over backwards to accommodate them, what happens? Did they believe that America would deliver Israel for them? Are you joking? Especially when this was under the Marco Rubio wing of the government, not the J.D. Vance wing of the government. Not that I think that matters all that much. So here they sign a deal which is contradictory and incompatible with the MoU, which hands over Lebanese sovereignty to Israel. It makes Israel’s withdrawal from sovereign Lebanese territory conditional rather than axiomatic and principled and legal. And what does it make it conditional on? It makes it conditional on the Lebanese government achieving a set of, I joke you not, this is the language in the agreement, ‘performance based criteria’. And who is judge and jury of whether they have met those criteria? Israel.”
Rania Khalek; “We might hear something about pilot zones because there’s a six rounds of talks happening between the Israelis and the Lebanese today in Rome. So we’ll see how that plays out. But I will say the Israelis are very good at playing on internal divisions, like you mentioned before, not just ethnic divisions, not just religious divisions, but very real political divisions. And I think with regard to Lebanon, the people who backed this surrender agreement, because I’m not really sure what else to call besides that it’s a surrender agreement, it’s like they just hate Iran and Hezbollah so much that even if they lose, as long as Hezbollah and Iran are losing, like, it’s fine. That’s kind of the mentality.”

Intro; ‘Journalist Jasper Nathaniel just spent a month in the occupied West Bank, and he came back with a warning: while the world watches Gaza, Israel is finishing a decades-long project to dominate the West Bank and drive Palestinians off their land for good. Rania Khalek talks with him about what settler expansion actually looks like on the ground: armed settlers storming villages on so-called “hikes,” stealing homes and launching attacks from the houses they’ve stolen, cutting off a village’s spring water and building a settlers-only swimming pool in the middle of a Palestinian town. They get into the Israeli state’s role, the wall being built to annex the fertile Jordan Valley, and the looting of ancient ruins in Sebastia. They also dig into Congressman Ro Khanna’s trip to the West Bank, his detention by settlers and soldiers, and the incoherence of coming home to tell Palestinians they must resist nonviolently. They also discuss incoming Congressman Brad Lander, the collapse of “liberal zionism” and Jasper’s own story as the grandson of Iraqi Jews who never needed Israel.
Jasper Nathaniel; “Now they have the backing of the entire Israeli government in these attacks. So it’s like this is a microcosm for what happens every day, because the settlers in general frame everything they do in terms of security for the most part. Like they need to secure their settlements from the barbarians outside the gate who are constantly trying to come in and kill them, but in their mind, or in their justification, that includes going into Palestinian villages where they actually legally are not even supposed to be according to Israeli law, and causing violence. And then now you see what’s happening. So if you go back even further, settlers for decades have been calling for basically a holy war. They understand that the best way to get the Palestinians out of the West Bank or what they call Judea and Samaria is through a war. What they’ve been doing for years is sort of a slow, grinding ethnic cleansing through bureaucracy, through violence, through land theft but what they really want is a decisive war that will defeat the Palestinians and get them out or kill them once and for all and they’re now one step closer after what happened today.
It is literally hand to hand combat, except only one side is doing the combat, the other side is just trying to defend themselves. And so, yes, when you just step in the middle of it there are activists in Umm al-Khair, some really great activists there right now, they get right in the middle of it and they try to position themselves between the Palestinians, who they know are more vulnerable, and the settlers, and they are being attacked. And the Palestinians are being attacked too, of course. It is completely ubiquitous. And so when I was there, there were, I think, three separate, really violent assaults where lots of people got beat up, several people went to the hospital. And what it resulted in was the military comes and arrests three activists and declares Salem’s backyard a closed military zone, which means that Salem and his family are no longer allowed to go in their backyard. They’re no longer allowed to use the bathroom there. But the settlers still come every day and they’ve been drinking their coffee there and eating their breakfast there and planting Israeli flags. So the settlers come, they provoke violence, they attack people. The military comes ostensibly to halt the violence, and then what they do is they just literally clear the land of the Palestinians and the activists and hand it over to the settlers. And eventually what will happen is the Israeli government will authorise this illegal outpost. They will probably call it a neighbourhood of Carmel, and it will become retroactively legalised, despite the fact that the land was seized illegally under Israeli law through violence. You even hear people, Israeli authorities sometimes condemn the settler violence there and then as soon as people stop paying attention, they just go and authorise it and recognise the gains. So in a place like Umm al-Khair the violence is constant, it’s every single day. This is where also Awdah Hathaleen, the activist, local activist there, was shot dead by a settler almost exactly a year ago, a year by the time this airs, it was July 28th last year, so the settler who killed him is not in jail, his construction company is still there building the outposts. So what they’re facing there is just constant violence. I’m very close with Awdah’s widow and she has three young kids that all lost their father and she is terrified and her kids are terrified. Imagine your father or your husband is murdered in front of you, and the people responsible for it are still coming every single day and terrorising you. Her mother, Awdah”s mother-in-law, was one of the people who was assaulted, an elderly woman and had to go to the hospital during one of these attacks. And so there’s a reason the film was called No Other Land. They have nowhere else to go. These people are already refugees from 1948 and they settled here and now they’re being forced out of here and they have nowhere else to go. What they’re facing in places like Umm al-Khair and all along the Hebron Hills and the Jordan Valley and lots of places in the West Bank is just, it is true, violent ethnic cleansing.”

‘Actions speak louder than words, as the saying goes. So far, all we have from Andy Burnham – expected to become Britain’s new prime minister in little more than a week – are words. His three-minute monologue to camera on Gaza, communicated via social media, was carefully, and cynically, calibrated. The first minute was dedicated to condemnations of Hamas and concerns about antisemitism – designed to insure against the kind of pile-on endured by Jeremy Corbyn from the political and media class every time he spoke out against Israel. The rest of Burnham’s piece to camera was no less judiciously weighed.
Vague contrition over the fact that Keir Starmer backed from the outset a supposed “right” by Israel to starve the people of Gaza of food and water – a crime against humanity, for which the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Worries about the resulting “humanitarian” suffering of the enclave’s Palestinian population – suffering entirely engineered by Israel.
The need for the return to a two-state solution – the very “solution” that has allowed Israel over the past three decades to devour the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation with illegal Jewish settlements.
Oh, and criticism of Israel for “appearing” to have committed war crimes.
These words were directed at a very specific audience: the millions of progressive voters who would once have seen Labour as their natural home but have been appalled by the party, in both opposition and government, throwing its weight behind Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Burnham was keen to tell these people that they should return to the fold under his leadership. Why? Because, without them, Labour has almost no chance of winning the next general election. Unless he persuades them he will be different, they will either stay home or vote Green. His fear is a consolation, if a small one. Even in these increasingly authoritarian times, there is a residual power in the exercise of our vote. Politicians cannot ignore us entirely. But all we have seen so far is that we can influence Burnham’s words. We can force Labour to do better image management. That will not save a single Palestinian, or Lebanese, life. Deeds are needed, not simply words.
So watch Burnham’s actions as prime minister. Here are some of the minimum things he would do if he was actually serious about ending British complicity in Israel’s genocide. Remember, he is legally obligated to do all the things listed below, according to an International Court of Justice ruling that countries must honour the Geneva Convention and take whatever concrete steps they can to prevent a genocide.
He must de-proscribe Palestine Action, and the chilling impact it was intended to have on those protesting British complicity in what UN inquiries, legal experts, human rights groups and Holocaust scholars all believe to be a genocide in Gaza.
He must advise the Crown Prosecution Service to drop the impending charges against, and prosecutions of, thousands of ordinary people as “supporters of terrorism” for holding placards opposing genocide.
He must insist, more generally, that the UK police stop hounding anti-genocide activists, journalists and lawyers through an expanded and exaggerated interpretation of already-draconian counter-terrorism laws, and also scrap a new National Security Bill being hurried through parliament that will criminalise those trying to scrutinise British collusion in crimes like the Gaza genocide.
He must announce that any Briton who has served in the Israeli military – there are at least 2,000 of them – risks being prosecuted for war crimes on their return to the UK, including the son of Britain’s Orthodox chief rabbi Ephraim Mirvis. Equally, he must remind the police of their duty to investigate prominent figures in Britain using their platforms to incite genocide.
He must commit to ending all arms sales to Israel, not just the measly suspension of 30 out of 350 export licences that was conceded by Starmer. He must also end the carve-out on Britain’s supply of components for the F-35 jets being used to bomb Gaza.
He must insist Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer, stop production of its killer drones at its UK factories and their shipment to Israel for use in Gaza – drones that a recent United Nations inquiry found were being used to deliberately target Palestinian children.
He must refuse to meet Israeli government ministers and generals, as Starmer’s government has repeatedly done in flagrant violation of its legal obligations, and promise to enforce the arrest warrant against Netanyahu, and any other Israeli officials the ICC may have indicted in secret, should they set foot in the UK.
He must stop British RAF base Akrotiri, on Cyprus, from being used for spy flights over Gaza, gathering intelligence that is being handed over to Israel and almost certainly directing its attacks on Gaza.
He must also block Britain’s role in the weapons supply chain to Israel, with Akrotiri being used to transfer US and German arms that have killed many tens of thousands of Palestinians in the enclave.
And he must impose economic sanctions and asset freezes on Israel, equivalent to those on Russia.
Will Burnham do all of this? Will he do any of it? Will he even try to do any of it? You know the answer as well as I do. Talk is cheap. Judge Burnham by his actions.’

Farmer; “The Gaza Strip is besieged and completely closed. Some seeds were close to extinction and some have already disappeared. So we try to preserve them. We achieve self sufficiency. I become a producer, I become able to overcome the loss of some seeds and the disappearance from the market.”
Presenter; “Salama Muhanna and his daughter Hanadi started the seed bank project in 2017 to collect local seeds and give farmers a reliable supply. It was destroyed when Israeli forces advanced into Gaza in 2024. Now, from a tent, Salama and Hanadi have started again.”
Hanadi Muhanna; “The war pushed most residents of the Gaza Strip toward agriculture, whether farming next to tents, in home gardens or in rooftops for those who were not displaced. Almost every individual in Gaza practiced agriculture during the war over the past three years. This was due to the high prices of vegetables in the market and their scarcity. Some people could not even afford to buy a kilo of tomatoes or a kilo of chard. The prices were extremely high.”
Presenter; “The International Committee of the Red Cross says the situation isn’t good enough. Foreign journalists aren’t allowed into Gaza, so I talked to their spokesman in the territory. remotely”;
“Farming in Gaza, it’s an incredibly difficult situation right now. There is very little space. The soil that is available has been reused again and again so that it’s very poor. The soil itself is exhausted, as are the farmers. And then on top of that, you have the restrictions and what is able to be brought in to support agriculture in Gaza itself, no seeds, no fertiliser, no nursery soil to support new seeds.”

Max Blumenthal; “What you see behind me is the wreckage of the volleyball and wrestling facility of Azadi Stadium in Tehran. It was destroyed on March 5th of this year during Operation Epstein Fury by four US missiles. Massive destruction all around. There’s nothing really left of it, as you can see inside. And I actually managed to talk to a local wrestler who has competed in this stadium and I said, why would the US do this? It’s obviously not a military target and he said because it was a wrestling facility where international competitions were held. So the US was actually targeting one of Iran’s best sports. Iran is famous for its wrestling. Its wrestlers routinely win gold medals and international competitions in the Olympics. And so the US was targeting Iran’s athletic infrastructure. And when you think about the attacks on, for example, Iran’s scientific research facilities. We went to Sharif University the other day and saw the attack on the AI centre, the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the assassinations of its scientists, its quantum physicists, its electrical engineers, the attacks on Iran’s oil plant, the attack on the Tehran oil refinery that doused Tehran in oil. It all starts to come together. And when you think about what just happened in the FIFA World cup where the competition was so obviously rigged against the Iranian national team with 15 of its members, almost its entire training staff prevented from having visas, the team having to cross from Tijuana to California every day, and then the team robbed of a goal with a crooked video-assist referee call. When you think about this whole picture and put it all together, then it becomes clear what the US and Israel intend for Iran is not freedom, democracy, woman-like freedom. It is national destruction.”
Iran has learnt that when dealing with the US, action must come before peace negotiations.

Professor Seyed Marandi; “Iran knows exactly what the Emirates has done and Iran knows exactly where the Israeli radar installations were and it knows exactly where Mossad was based in the Emirates. It knows everything that it needs to know. And Iran knows what planes struck Iranian targets and from where, especially after the ceasefire. The Emiratis cannot hide anything from Iran. It’s a tiny regime with 1.12 million citizens. It has 10 million people living on that land who are overwhelmingly not citizens. Iran gets ample information from inside that country, so they cannot hide anything from Iran. And during the war they played a very clear role against the country. Aside from the Israelis, we know that American troops are there, we know that American jets are there. All of the five countries, including Oman as a sixth country, all of them were cooperating with the United States. US jets flew over their territory, they used their airports, they used their land, they fired missiles from the lands of different countries. They used the sea of these countries to attack Iran. But the Emirates showed a particular malice. And of course, that’s in line with the general policy of the Abu Dhabi regime. And Mohammed bin Zayed, we’ve seen what he’s done in the Horn of Africa, we’ve seen what he’s done in Sudan, in Somalia, in Yemen. It’s a pattern. His policies are the policies of the Israeli regime. More than any of these other US proxies in the region. The only country that refrained and refused to take part in the war in Iran is Oman. And look at Oman today. It is reaping the benefits. It has been untouched. And even though the Emirates most probably carried out false flag operations in Oman on the first couple of days, but other than that, it’s untouched. So the model of the Iranian-Omani relationship is something that the other countries in the region could have pursued, but instead they decided to follow their overlord in Washington. But of course, as I said, the behaviour of Mohammed bin Zayed goes far beyond anyone else in his malice.”

Professor Seyed Marandi; “There are certain ideals that exist in Iran and those ideals are very important for the Islamic Republic and one of those is the Palestinian cause. It’s not just Palestine. Iran supported the resistance in South Africa. Ayatollah Khamenei when he was president, he travelled to the frontline countries in Southern Africa just to help them. His support for all countries in Latin America. Iran helped communist Cuba, Iran helped catholic Venezuela, Iran of course helped Bosnia, Iran saved Bosnia. In Afghanistan Iran helped the Taliban expel the United States. In Syria it wasn’t those who were supporting the US empire and proxies of the US empire, allies of the US empire were saying that Iran is supporting the Syrian government for sectarian reasons. It had nothing to do with that. It was because the empire was trying to undermine Syria and that’s why Iran was standing against it. It doesn’t matter who the President of Syria was for Iran. And the evidence of this is that Iran did the opposite in Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, many of the Tajiks who are Persian speakers and the Hazaras or all Shia and the Uzbeks and even Pashtuns who are against the Taliban, they became angry with Iran because Iran helped the Taliban expel the United States. Without Iran, the Taliban couldn’t have done it. Of course the Taliban now is different from the Taliban that first took over Afghanistan. They were truly genocidal. But after the collapse of their government and the US occupation and new leaders coming to power, Iran began to engage with them. They began to evolve in a limited way. We have big differences over women’s education and other issues, but it’s still different. So the Iranians helped them. So the Shias in Afghanistan, some of them, and the Persian speakers and the Uzbeks are angry with Iran. They say they’re supporting the Taliban but Iran’s is consistent in its policy, it’s anti empire and anti zionist. And so Iran can never normalise with the Israeli regime. It’s just not possible. And Iran is not anti-Jewish. I think everyone knows that by now. In fact, the Israelis bombed a synagogue in Tehran during this war and destroyed it. And when the, the head of the synagogue, when he asked the Iranian government not to use cranes to help rebuild and to take away the rubble because they have old Jewish texts that they found, like, from hundreds or years ago or whatever, he said that, contrary to his expectations, the Iranians agreed and they began to remove everything by hand. So that’s the degree to which Iran respects its Jewish community. They have a Jewish MP. Mutual friends of ours have been to synagogues. Max Blumenthall, George Galloway, they’ve been to synagogues. If you walk by a synagogue in Tehran, you would never know that there’s a synagogue there, because there’s no guard standing in front of it, because there’s no need for any guards, because they’re safe and secure, just like any mosque or any church in Tehran. So for Iran, Judaism is not a problem at all.”

‘Piers Morgan invited Max Blumenthal on to discuss his Iran reporting and the illegal seizure of his devices by the US govt, but spent much of his time questioning Blumenthal’s “impartiality.”
“I’m absolutely not impartial,” Blumenthal explained. “I am not objective, and the concept of objectivity, as we understand it, is set out by the corporate media according to the parameters devised for them by their militant zionist ruling class owners, who literally own the networks that you appear on.” Blumenthal then illustrated how Morgan manufactured consent for the US-Israeli war on Iran by promoting inflated death tolls and a false narrative of the Israeli and US-sponsored regime change riots that rocked Iran in January. John Mearsheimer; “Early in the week, President Trump made it clear that if the Iranians did not surrender by the end of this week, that he would then go after civilian infrastructure in Iran. He’d go after bridges, he’d go after power plants, and so forth and so on. But what happened was that at the end of this past week, he started, or the United States started to go after civilian infrastructure. We went after bridges, we went after power plants, and we went after a desalination plant inside of Iran. Now, what the Iranians did was they instantly retaliated against similar targets in countries like Kuwait. Furthermore, they ramped up the bombing campaign against Jordan, and they bombed Saudi Arabia for the first time in almost four months. So they made it clear that they were going to play tit for tat. Moreover, the Iranians made it clear that next week, if President Trump went after civilian infrastructure in a big way, they would basically shut down the flow of oil out of the Persian Gulf and out of the Red Sea and out of the United Arab Emirates, which has a very important port that’s located outside of the Strait of Hormuz. All of this would be shut down. And furthermore, the Iranians would go after all sorts of power plants, desalination plants across the Middle East. So the Iranians made it clear that they were playing hardball. Now, when you look at these threats in the context of what the Iranians have actually been able to do over the past few days, in terms of hitting various targets in Jordan and in other places in the Middle East, it’s manifestly clear that the Iranians have the capability to target all sorts of infrastructure inside of these Middle East states and do great destruction. And both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal have run articles in recent days about how effective the missile strikes are. So I think what has happened here, Chris, and I’m just saying I think this is what happened, is that last night, which is Saturday, Sunday night, the American retaliation against Iran did not include civilian infrastructure in any meaningful way. They did not go after bridges, they did not go after power plants. They did not go after desalination plants, which they had been doing. We had been moving in that direction, but that stopped last night. And the question you have to ask yourself is, number one, why? And number two, is that a harbinger of what we think will happen in the coming week. Now, my guess is that it stopped last night because the Gulf states called up President Trump and said, you absolutely cannot go after civilian infrastructure inside of Iran, because if the Iranians retaliate, they will destroy our societies, they will wreck our power plants, they will wreck our desalination plants. And it looks like, again, just looks like Trump listened. And then that raises the question, why? What will Trump do this coming week? Because he has promised that he is going to unleash the dogs and go after all this civilian infrastructure in Iran. But he now knows what the consequences of that will be. Well, he’s so mercurial, of course, it’s very dangerous to predict. He could very well bomb civilian infrastructure tomorrow night. One senses he’s flailing about. Of course, the entire war on Iran was built on a fantasy that didn’t come to fruition, fed to him largely by Netanyahu. But it doesn’t appear that there’s any real strategy other than an escalation of force. And I think the naive hope that that will make the Iranians bend. But you may have another take on that. Well, I think you’re right that he signed the MoU on the 17th of June, and as I’ve emphasised on numerous occasions on numerous platforms, that was a surrender document. The Iranians won on every point. Then, after signing the agreement, he decided to challenge the Iranians on the whole question of who controls the Strait of Hormuz. To me, it was very clear from Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding that Iran controlled the strait in the 60-day negotiating period. And then moving forward, control of the Strait would be settled between Iran and Oman. That was the deal. There was nothing about the United States controlling the Strait. But what President Trump tried to do was open a US-dominated channel in the Gulf. They got around Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz and the Iranians said, unsurprisingly, this is unacceptable and it violates Article 5. But Trump felt confident that he could basically throw the MoU under the bus and he could engage in a tit for tat military strategy with the Iranians where the United States would win. In other words, he seemed to believe that we had newfound coercive leverage over the Iranians after signing the June 17th MoU. But this is delusional.”
Chris Hedges; “Well, the irony is that there was huge opposition from the hardliners in Iran to essentially agree to this MoU. And that raises the other issue. If there is a way, a negotiated way out, it isn’t going to look like the MoU, which was a surrender document. It’s going to look a lot worse for the United States. The because the MoU was predicated on phases. This time around, the Iranians are going to demand that they have about 100 billion in frozen assets. They’re going to want that released. They’re going to want a lot of stuff up front.”
John Mearsheimer; “I agree with that. There’s no question that the moderates won with regard to whether or not Iran should sign the MoU on June 17. The hardliners said, don’t sign it, you can’t trust the Americans, but the moderates prevailed and then the hardliners proved to be correct. So they’re now in the driver’s seat, as best we can tell. And it seems to me, given that we don’t have any military strategy for defeating Iran, that we’re going to at some point have to move to a Memorandum of Understanding number two and it will be the hardliners not the moderates who are in the driver’s seat. And as I think you correctly point out, those hardliners will push forward a tougher deal for Trump to swallow. I would imagine that in addition to your point about them wanting all of those frozen assets up front, they will also demand that the Israelis get out of southern Lebanon. If you look at Article 1 of 17 June, MoU, it dealt with Lebanon. And it was very clear from that Memorandum of Understanding and the mere fact that the Lebanon issue was the number one issue on that agenda, that the Iranians really do want the Israelis to stop bombing Hezbollah and to get out of southern Lebanon. And it could be, one can’t tell for sure, but it could be that the Iranians will demand that that happen before they sign a Memorandum of Understanding. And this, of course, will put Trump in an extremely difficult position because as we both know, the Israelis have no interest in getting out of southern Lebanon.
But the problem that we face here is that the Iranians, I think, probably have more leverage now than they had before the June 17 agreement. I would note, Chris, that I said, not publicly, but I said privately to a number of friends who I go back and forth with on this whole issue, that I thought the Iranians were foolish to sign the 17 June Memorandum of Understanding. I’ve long believed that the longer the war goes on and the more oil that’s cut off from the Gulf, the better off the Iranians are. And just to elaborate on that a bit, and this will put some meat on the bone when it comes to talking about what might happen this coming week. You want to remember that there were about 20 million barrels per day coming out of the Gulf on February 27th. When people talk about 20% of the world’s oil came out of the Gulf, that 20% represents about 20 million barrels. And since the war started, we’ve devolved to a situation where 7 million barrels are still coming out of Saudi Arabia and, and the UAE combined. So it’s only, in my opinion, about 13 million barrels that have been bottled up in the Gulf. Now, where are those 7 million barrels coming out of Saudi Arabia? One is that Saudi Arabia is sending probably somewhere on the order of 5 million barrels out through the Red Sea, not through the Strait of Hormuz. And I would guess that the UAE is sending out close to 2 million barrels from Fujairah, which is a UAE port on the Gulf of Oman. In other words, it’s outside of the Strait of Hormuz. So you have this roughly 7 million barrels of oil, 7 million out of the original 20 million that are still coming out of the Persian Gulf. I think the Iranians have a vested interest in shutting down the flow of oil through the Red Sea, that’s the Saudi Arabian oil, and shutting down Fujairah. And there’s some evidence they’ve already shut down Fujairah because this will worsen the oil situation, the global oil problem that the United States and the rest of the world faces. So if the war goes on and the Iranians are able to shut down the Red Sea, which they’re threatening to do, and also shut down, and keep shut down Fujairah, this will work to their advantage. It will give them more coercive leverage. So all of this is to say, Chris, if Trump does up the ante this coming week and goes after civilian infrastructure inside of Iran, the Iranians will retaliate by shutting down almost completely the flow of those 7 million barrels of oil that are now coming out of Saudi Arabia and probably the UAE as well.”
Chris Hedges; “Let’s talk about Israel. Israel has not carried out strikes in this latest round and Iran has refrained from attacking Israel, although they did I think the Iranians attacked the port of Aqaba, which is of course very close to the Israeli border. There were Israeli officials who objected to the fact that American refuelling planes were stationed in Israel. Netanyahu had to override them. Let’s talk about the wild card of Israel. If Israel gets pulled back into this. It does feel like Armageddon at that point.”
John Mearsheimer; “Well, the Israelis definitely want to stay out. They’ll let the Americans wage this tit for tat campaign. I would imagine if a major air war started again, which is extremely unlikely, the Israelis would willingly participate. But I think the Israelis understand at this point that if they get involved in the fight now, if they get involved in the tit for tat conflict, then they become a giant magnet for Iranian missiles. The Israelis are surely watching what just happened in Jordan, what’s happening in Kuwait, what’s happening in Bahrain and what the Iranians are promising to do in the UAE. And they fully understand that Iranian missiles invariably get through the defences. Maybe a few of those defensive missiles, those Patriots, will knock down an incoming ballistic missile. But most of the ballistic missiles and cruise missiles and drones that the Iranians fire at those Gulf states get through, and they will get through in Israel as well. We now know that the Israelis were not very successful in shooting down Iranian ballistic missiles and drones during the 40-day air campaign, which ran from February 28th to about April 8th. Israel really got pounded and the Israelis don’t want to get pounded again. So they’re perfectly content to sit on the sideline and let the Americans wage this tit for tat strategy.”
Chris Hedges; “The other issue is that the accuracy of the Iranian missiles and drones has increased exponentially from the inception of the conflict back to the 40 day conflict, largely because I think they’re using, or it’s assumed they’re using, Chinese and perhaps Russian satellite systems.”
John Mearsheimer; “It’s not just the accuracy, Chris, it’s also the missiles. In many cases, many of the ballistic missiles can manoeuvre as they’re coming down toward the target and that enables them to dodge or avoid the missile defence systems that the Gulf states and Israel have. And I think maybe most important of all, it appears that both the Chinese and the Russians are supplying Iran with excellent intelligence as to where the key targets are. So in other words, it’s not just the accuracy. It’s not just that they can put these missiles in the pickle barrel, it’s also the fact that, that they know which pickle barrels to hit because either the Russians or the Chinese or both of them are providing them with excellent intelligence. And the manoeuvrability, the accuracy that you mentioned and the intelligence information, you combine all those things with the fact that they have ballistic missiles that have powerful warheads, and you can see where they can do one heck of a lot of damage. And they are doing one heck of a lot of damage. And again, we don’t want to underestimate that they’re promising to do even more damage. And when you see what they have done up to now, and you think about the promises, you begin to say these are credible promises. And this is why at the start of the show, I was saying to you that I think that this is why President Trump did not go after civilian infrastructure last night and why he, and I want to underline the word might, might not go after civilian infrastructure this coming week. Although, as you pointed out, he is flailing around, and I think your use of the word flailing is exactly the right word. He is flailing around and he is in desperate straits. So nobody knows for sure what he might do this week, but it does seem that if basic deterrence strategy or basic deterrence logic kicks in, that he probably won’t go up the escalation ladder this week.”
Chris Hedges; “How much damage has Iran inflicted on US bases in the region? It’s all classified. So we’re kind of groping.”
John Mearsheimer; “Well, it’s quite clear from what you read in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and these are newspapers that are deeply dedicated to the American cause, it’s not like these are pro-Iranian newspapers, but it’s quite clear what you read from these newspapers that we have suffered an enormous amount of damage on our bases. Usually the rhetoric in these newspapers is that almost all of the bases have been either badly damaged or destroyed. And of course, the Iranians have continued to go after those bases in places like Kuwait and Bahrain. The 5th Naval Headquarters are at Bahrain, and the Iranians have continued to pound those headquarters and that naval base more generally, they’ve continued to bomb all sorts of US Targets in Kuwait.
Iran is bombing Jordan. Why is Iran bombing Jordan? And the answer is that we have moved lots of military assets to Jordan because they are so vulnerable in places that like Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE and so forth and so on. So Jordan has become an important staging area. Well, the Iranians responded by going after US targets in Jordan, and this is why they ended up killing two American servicemen. They’ve also, it appears, wounded many other American servicemen. They’ve attacked one base and destroyed a significant number of Black Hawk helicopters, and they have attacked the main US air base in Jordan as well. And they are threatening to continue those attacks on Jordan. And what the Iranians are basically saying, there is no place to hide. Wherever you go, we’re coming after you. And you want to understand that we have a lethal missile and drone force, and we will use that force in very effective ways. And they have demonstrated quite clearly that they have that capability.”
Chris Hedges; “A lot of the air attacks have been concentrated in southern Iran and there’s been speculation that this is because the United States is considering seizing parts of Iranian territory, some of the islands, perhaps Kharg Island. I don’t know how they would do it. I guess they would have to do it by air. I’m not sure how that would work. Certainly they can’t do it by ship. I think the Boxers, they’re amphibious, and that’s what, 200 miles away or something? Do you see that as a possibility? And how would it play out?”
John Mearsheimer; “Well, I’ll make a couple points, Chris. First of all, you have to ask yourself, how many combat troops, here we’re talking mainly about infantry and Marines, US army infantry and Marines, combat troops, people that you can use for an amphibious operation, how many troops of that sort do we have in the Gulf now? You’ll see in the media, people say there are 50,000 American troops in the region. That’s true. But those 50,000 troops are not all combat troops and in my opinion, most of them are not combat troops. My guess is that there are at the most 8,000 Marines and Army troops from the 82nd Airborne in the region. About 8,000 combat troops at most. What are you going to do with 8,000 troops? It’s a tiny number of troops. If you’re seriously talking about invading a country like Iran that has 93 million people, a formidable military, represents a huge piece of real estate, this is a big territory that it covers, has forbidding terrain. What are you going to do with 8,000 troops? Not only do you have to invade with those 8,000 troops, you have to sustain them, and then you have to reinforce them. This is just not in the cards. And if you listen to President Trump talk, he says that it’s not going to be American ground troops that do the invading, it’s other troops from the region that are going to do the invading, the ground operation. So I scratch my head and say, well, who is that? Are they going to send in the IDF? No, they’re bogged down in southern Lebanon, and the Israelis are too smart to invade Iran. That’s not going to happen. So who’s going to do it? And it looks like, if anybody, it’s going to be the Kurds coming out of Iraq who invade Iran. But the Kurds are not going to do that unless they’re crazy. And if they do invade, it’s not going to have any meaningful consequence. The Kurds are a ground force option? This is not serious. 8,000 troops in the region are a ground force option? I don’t think so. Furthermore, if President Trump were foolish enough to try and seize an island or to land somewhere on the coastline of Iran, many American soldiers would die. This would be a highly dangerous operation. The Iranians would go to great lengths to retaliate and drive those American forces off the beaches. And the question you have to ask yourself is, what does the cost benefit analysis look like for President Trump? There’d be zero benefit. What is he going to gain by invading an island or establishing a beachhead on the Iranian coast? What are the gains from that? I don’t see any. And the cost? The cost is that many Americans will die in what almost everybody will see as a futile military operation, and he’ll pay an even greater political price for that. So why would he do that? So I don’t see any ground force option. You know, Chris, just to elevate for a second here, we started with a strategic bombing campaign that lasted 40 days. It failed. We were running out of munitions. And despite all the talk about all the damage we were doing to Iran’s missile and drone capability, that proved not to be true. So we quit after 40 days. Then we went to the blockade that lasted just a little over two months. And then we quit when we signed the Memorandum of Understanding because the blockade didn’t work. Then Trump welched on the deal, on the June 17 Memorandum of Understanding, and we started engaging in this tit for tat war which we’re now involved in, and that’s not working. As we’ve just talked about, that’s not working.”
